The gulf in class between the CL and EL is absolutely mental. Look at that top 8 in the EL as it stands, would any make top 24 in the CL?

If we had the fixtures Rangers had this year I think we would win every game. Maybe a draw in one of them if we had a a bit an off night.

The drop off is massive. Obviously because there are no teams dropping down from the CL, which works out well for the teams in the EL but it takes all the thrill out of it. There are some big names but most of them are nowhere near where they once were.

This season in Europe was about seeing the team progress & develop they have done that, it just happens to be our luck Bayern/Real had a slack campaign. Just try and give a good account of ourselves will be tough and most likely a sore one. But need to take games in isolation. It won't define our season the gaffer and lads done well. Our draw was favourable but we still had to win the games. 1 qualifier next season and need to be winning that and then develop and evolve again!

100%. Without teams dropping from the CL into the EL (and even the EL into the Conference), the lesser competitions will definitely suffer for glamour in the latter stages.

On the plus side, if we were to lose out in the CL qualifiers at some point and drop into the Europa, it’s become a tournament that we should expect to do very, very well in.

I do wonder how long it will be before UEFA look at reintroducing the parachute though. For example, could it be changed so that the 8 sides that lose out in the playoff round in the CL drop into the EL? They could have it that the top 24 in the Europa qualify, 8 drop down from the CL and then the last 32 is knockout. Extra games to fit into the calendar, but when has that ever stopped them.

It will probably take a few of the bigger teams missing out on the next round before they look at it. Man City would have been a concern for them last night at 0-1 down I would bet. Shame they turned it round.

I think as a whole the EL is just not that appealing. Obviously if we ended up in it and got to the QF stage I would no doubt change my mind on that though.

Positive is we’d much rather he was available away in that tie. At home we will see a bit more of the ball and Kuhn and Jota could run at them. Away we will need the work rate, winning it high up, breaking up play and someone to run in behind.

Looks like our fans will be banned from the away leg as a result of the flare being thrown on to the pitch last night.

Thank * that cringe ‘glamour tie’ patter seems to have been dropped. It’s a lot more glamorous getting further into the tournament than getting spanked 5-0 off Real Madrid.

Same. Feyenoord beat them 3-0, Barca 4-1 and Villa 1-0. They only won 1-0 at home to PSG who had 10 men half the game and 1-0 at home to Benfica. We could defo do something at home but it’s away we will probably crumble and it will be a step to far.

Bayern definitely preferred out the two options. 75% we still get beat but I see the score line being closer than against Real.

Real give me the fear even at Celtic Park.

The draw we have been left with has left me quite deflated.

Don’t get me wrong I think the team have done very well to qualify for the knockout round, and it’s not even a case at the moment of what ifs. More just a bit gutted in how we lost the 3rd and 4th goals last night and ultimately our reward is to likely get scudded by Real or Bayern.

Think Bayern would be much easier.

Vinicius and Mbappe they'd be guarenteed to score about 5 goals against us alone over the two games never mind the rest of their players, we seem to always get done off big teams who have players with pace and skill they get too much space and too many chances to run in and shoot against us.

Bayern don't have much pace, they're kind of slow down the middle. Plus their wide players are probably easier to deal with, Coman, Gnabry and Sane you feel like never play at full tilt and always hold a bit back as they're quite injury prone now.

Plus they are only an injury or 2 away from playing like Muller and Dier.

Not that Bayern will be easy though, they can toss crosses in from anywhere and Kane will be all over them, Musiala will be dancing round * for fun and that Davies flying down the left. Kimmich pinging it about and Olise, Coman, Gnabry, Sane, Muller and whoever can all score goals. Their two centre-backs are also powerful, quick and and aggressive so someone like Maeda would probably get bullied more if he was the striker than even against Real.
