As I said above the lack of competition, IMO, is a factor. But you are right every individual can do something to improve the atmosphere.

So John Reid's appointment is a sign of the clubs progress, but we better stop singing songs about Irish history because 'it makes us look bad'?

Agree about the lack of competition affecting the atmosphere, but I think all seater stadiums are the main reason why there is so little vocal support not just at Celtic Park but most stadiums.I would also agree with Braveheart, fans nowadays seem incredibly complacent, they expect others to do the singing for them.........

Its a very simple reason why "singing isnt as prevelant as in previous standing areas" coz you cannot choose where to stand/sit !!

That's exactly it. Season tickets design where you sit, so you can't go to the "singing section" now, hence the reason there is hardly any singing at games now. All the chanters are spread around the ground instead of a Jungle type situation.

Thats a lame excuse for not singing.
I relocated myself away from the prawn sandwich brigade up to 445 to get in amongst guys who try and make an atmosphere audio and visually. 90% of the support don't make that effort which is sad yet 99% of the fans agree with the principle of the jungle bhoys and their efforts. So for me its down to laziness. Or else they are just casual fans who happen to be able to afford a seat but lack the passion of a true fan. Either way their presence there does * all for anyone.

The problem is, I like my seat. I wish there was more singing and atmosphere, but I wouldn't change my seat because of the view.

I dont think all seater stadiums are the problem inherently though as much as what has come with them, ie...

    1. Real fans being priced out and replaced by people who regard going to matches as a fun alternative to going to the theatre or the cinema. Ie mere entertainment... football (Celtic especially) used to be about more than that.
    2. The amount of surveilence fans are subjected to to keep that 'desirable' demographic happy. If you show any signs of being drunk, your out. Swear? Out. Say something provocative that Mrs.Wamfy from Milngavie with her 2 8 year old boys finds disagreeable? Out. And * forbid if you wanna sing a song or fly a banner that expresses a political view point that anyone in the mainstream press disagrees with. Not only does that * Mrs.Wamfy Milngavie off but much worse it * off Nike and Michelin Tires.

You make some fair points and I would agree with most of what you write.
The point I was making regarding all seater stadiums is that when Celtic Park had terracings you knew where the singing would be and had the choice to stand there. You cant really do that now.It seemed at the old CP
a pretty good atmosphere was generated with maybe 30,000.
As you rightly say,a different demographic attends football these days. And it seems singing of any kind might disturb these genteel souls.

how about we record the singing on the best crowd nights and pipe it in over the real crowd to double up the noise. You could have dj put on free kick, goal ,near miss etc disks when needed. You know it makes sense:icon_mrgreen:

Definitely agree about YNWA - and especially with CL games. Before the match its on, at half time its on....if the players are late coming out they'll ring it again to make sure its on when the TV cameras roll. If we win its on again. Id be glad if I didn't hear the * thing again for a year TBH. The Celtic song is a classic, so I dont mind that.

They should edit out the 'up the ra' bit or replace it with 'ooh Nakamura, say Ohh nakamura' or something and put Celtic Symphony on. They should get Charlie + the Bhoys to studio record a 'let the people sing/this land is my land' as well. Start playing some older songs like 'Celtic, Celtic', 'Hampden in the sun', 'east end of town', 'paul mcstay' & 'Jimmy Johnstone on the wing' as well. A bit of variety....15 years ago there used to be way more songs that would ring round Parkhead, now we're down to 5 or 6 tops.

I agree aswell mate about YNWA. It's a beautiful song, but overplayed. We should only have it at the start, and maybe when we win at the end. At the Benfica game YNWA was played at the same time as the Champions League tune, a shambles! It * me off actually that songs are blasted over the PA everytime a team scores or wins, like that Fratellis song. It's basically telling people to celebrate. Quite patronising.

I remember the Scottish Cup final, when Lennon lifted the cup they played the Fratellis. Really tacky. Let people make their own noise, the traditional way I say.

Scottish people just need to wake the * up and realise they're only songs. Nobody in Ireland minds if you sing about the IRA, although obiouvsly stuff like Say Hello to the Provos is a bit in-your-face but BOTB and Sean South are folk songs that have gone down in history.

I couldn't give a toss if the Huns want to sing The Sash, it's quite a nice tune, or if they want to sing Derry's Walls or whatever else. Just let us drown em out with BOTB.

Out of interest, would Com Out Ye Black & Tans be 'banned'? Seeing as it's not sectarian at all.

    Hear Hear,
The punters must be too thick to celebrate without prompting!
