Celtic In Europe 2025/26

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by Luis1967, Mar 15, 2025.

  1. Mate I think he's saying Berget doesn't play for Basel so there's no point talking about what he done against us. Ajeti is pish, he could play against us 10 times this year and he'd still be lucky to score even once

  2. What a snoozefest as usual :giggle1:

You said Malmo have Berget playing up front for them. They don't. It's that simple..

    You've defo jinxed it now:giggle1:

  4. I'm hoping we don't get them now haha but Berget had us running scared of Mo Bangura a few years ago. Mo Bangura FFS

    Glad the Israelis are out.

They’ve no right to play in the competition and a tie between us would have been an absolute tinder box.

  6. In 2015. Don't omit that part.

I don't really believe that you genuinely think I was saying that Berget plays for Malmo now. I'm sure that you are well aware that although I chose to use the present tense for rhetorical reasons, I wasn't referring to the present time.

I think anyone who reads my post in good faith rather than looking for ways to score points will realise the analogy I was making. I deliberately quoted Dazza's sentence word for word to make that point even clearer, simply swapping out "Basel and "Ajeti" for "Malmo" and "Berget" respectively. If, by some chance, someone missed the analogy, a good-faith reader would still notice that Malmo aren't one of the teams we can face in the qualifiers and Berget is probably retired by now and so not assume I was making a claim about Berget's current club.

And even if someone missed all that, they would notice that the previous sentence explicitly said, "Imagine it's 2015."

I just plain don't believe you are arguing in good faith here.

  7. My point was about your argument that we ought to beat Basel because Ajeti plays for them. I said that the logic seemed sound but experience suggests otherwise. As I pointed out, someone in 2015 could have used exactly the same argument to argue that we would beat Malmo and we all know how that turned out.

Yeah the ones where they do come back to haunt us tend to stand out more than the ones where they don't TBF. I just vividly remember a qualifier in 2014 where I couldn't quite believe how toothless Berget was for us on the wing, how much of a downgrade on Sammy. And then almost exactly a year later he's scoring 2 against us at CP (which would eventually put us out after the second leg).

    Seemed like a bad joke.

  8. “Full time at Celtic Park, the Bhoys have it all to do in Switzerland.

    1-4 (Ajeti OG 3’, Ajeti, 4’, Ajeti 4’, Ajeti 5’, Ajeti 90’.)

edit - he had 18 goal contributions for them last year. He looked like a 38 year old on his last legs for us. Serious doubts over the league if hes doing that while Shaqiri had about 2 goal contributions a game i’m sure.

We are 100% drawing Basel. I'm convinced.

Shaqiri is the type of * as well to cause us no end of bother in a European Qualifier. 30 yard screamer in the 78th minute whilst we push for a winner incoming.

  10. As of right now Basel will turn us over the two legs. That is how I feel. Think I'd fancy us to just about get through the other ties. We are not in a good position right now.

  11. The amount of Israeli fans out looking for trouble with govan accents on matchday would have been suspicious :fear:

  12. Asked Google AI for their analysis of us v Rangers
That club who went bust, are badly run and have no money.

Here's a comparison of Celtic and Rangers' European Coefficient rankings over the last 10 years, based on recent reports:

    Rangers

    • Over the past five seasons (as of March 2025), Rangers have amassed 17.825 points towards the Scottish coefficient, ranking them 8th among European clubs for their contribution in that period.
    • Only Real Madrid, Manchester City, GNK Dinamo, Bodo/Glimt, Bayern Munich, Benfica, and Paris Saint-Germain are listed ahead of them.
    • Rangers' overall UEFA coefficient ranking for 2024/2025 is 28th, with a score of 52.000.
    Celtic
    • In the same five-year period, Celtic contributed 9.9 points towards the Scottish coefficient, placing them 57th in the standings, according to The Scotsman.
    • Celtic's overall UEFA coefficient ranking for 2024/2025 is 69th, with a score of 22.000.
    Key takeaways
    • Rangers have significantly outperformed Celtic in terms of UEFA coefficient contributions over the last five seasons.
    • Rangers' stronger European performances, including a run to the Europa League final in 2021/2022, have significantly bolstered their coefficient score.
    • Despite recent domestic dominance, Celtic have struggled to translate that into sustained European success, resulting in a lower coefficient ranking.

I think a big part of that is that the co-efficient is flawed. A win in the conference league is the same as a win in the CL. Kind of makes no sense as even the worst team in CL would win a fair few games in the conference league. The same goes for EL. We also haven't played a qualifier since 2021, where the huns have picked up points.

  14. He doesn't play for them..
