Why don't you explain to us exactly why Neil Lennon gave up International football?

If you're the man in the know enlighten us.

    Im with you Mithrandir.

When he stated tpical old firm fan meant that he is not a fan and more than likely on here to ruffle feathers.

Im sorry norniron82 but I would say any celtic fan from norniron would def not be supporting steve davis and david healy but we would support aidzinho and o'dea

    Hail Hail

Neil Lennon retired from international football because he received a death threat. This death threat was made due to the fact that someone didn't like the fact that a Celtic player was going to captain Northern Ireland. One person made this threat.

Does this make all Northern Ireland fans bad? Believe it or not any muppet can get hold of a 20 pence piece, walk to a phone box and make such a threat. Given it was the days when NI where absolutely pish I would be really surprised if the person involved even attended the match.

Previous to this Lennon played for Northern Ireland in a game which has become famous to the day with all NI fans. This was the night when he was booed by a "section" of the so called NI support. Having attended the match myself I along with the majority of others where pretty disgusted by this and ensured to drown this out with chants of "There's only one Neil Lennon". Lennon himself even came out the following game and praised the fans for their support. Funny how people seem to forget this.

Its amazing the impact one or a few idiots can have on your reputation. Don't tar us all with the same brush though eh?

I won't deny there was idiots in our support, in fact I won't deny there still aren't idiots, despite the strides that have been made to make NI matches a better place. Unfortunately all teams have them, even Celtic!! I'll probably get slated for saying this but hopefully its taken in the correct context, what happened with Lennon was the kick up the backside we needed. It allowed the IFA and the fans to stand up and say No we won't accept this. Football for All has been born out of the Lennon Saga and so far it has been a success. Its not complete, whether it ever will be I don't know but the changes in NI matches over the past 15 years make me proud to support them and proud to be a part of it. We live in a difficult society but things are changing.

Oh and my comment about Hampden in August was directed towards any Scottish Celtic fans!! I only know 2 CFC fans who go to NI games, I didn't think there was any more :icon_mrgreen:

Apologies if thats a bit long winded but you did ask!!!

"In the main, the reception I received was brilliant," said Lennon.

"There are minorities in all walks of like who make trouble for everyone else.
"But there are a lot more good people than bad in this country. "I hope to be back but first I will talk things over with my club and family and take it from there."

These 2 CFC fans u talk about must need their heads examined to go to N I games. You also said this happened when NI were rubbish Im sorry mate but NI are still rubbish and it will show in the WC quals.

Now lets pray to the lord for granting us all the wish that we never see Kyle Laugherty in The Hoops of our famous club.

I don't see why they need their head examined. They are there to support Northern Ireland, thats where their roots lie, thats their choice. As for NI being rubbish, to be honest I don't care. For me I'll support my team through anything, for me thats what makes international football different from club football. I don't get a choice on my team, i take the highs with the lows, and in our terms recently has been some highs for us. We will never be Brazil, we are a county of 1.5 million, we will probably never qualify in my life time but I can't say that bothers me. Not being smart but that can sometimes be difficult for a fan of a reasonably successful team to understand.

We finished 3rd in the last Euro qualifiers and in the process beat Spain, Sweden & Denmark at home, and drew with Sweden and Denmark away*. If that makes us rubbish then thats up to you.

*Just a pity we can't beat Iceland.

Where you there that night? Can I assume that is where you got your facts from? Interesting that Lennon himself would state it was a minority but yet Kevtun knows different.

Who's to say that Coyle won't come back in for Riorden, now that he's got the extra cash to meet WGS' valuation.

A very fair point bud - but at least they will have to mark our 1 mill valuation for him, and fight it out with McCalister (Leeds) for the signature - all i meant was that i thought Burnley's rejection of our deal was bizarre to say the least...

what an outragous thing to say. how do you know these Celts aren't Northen Irish? stupid to say they should not support there nation because they are 'rubbish'. were you one of these supporters who have only recently just started to become part of the Tarten Army? i've supported Scotland through thick and thin (like i have with Celtic).

what nation do you support? Brazil? or is this month 'Netherlands month'?

Niorion, you defended yourself well there. i know what you mean by one idiot overshadows the rest of the decent supporters. we should all relate to this, none of us can claim that our club is free of bigotry. i do not agree with this and in some away games i have had to move away from these idiots. my Dad used to play for Celts (only appeared once for the first team, but it's still something to brag about imo) and has grown up with that in the stands and he hates it, and so did the players he was surrounded with.

as for Lafferty, you've gone to the poorer, in every sense of the word, side of Glasgow. we've got bigger fish to fry:86:

So did I Davy Bhoy, but maybe a combination of Burnley holding out for the most cash, and Laffs being a Rangers fan swung the deal.

Also: OC had made enquiries about Gow in January and tried to bring him to TM on loan, so as well as playing in the same side as him, Gow is a player OC wants. I hope he's some chuffing good! :84:

Anyhow the craics been good folks, Have a good season Celtic for the SPL (4 in a row) and Wolves to finish below Burnley! I'll drop in again some time. :bbpd:

Take care bud - as for Gow, if he finally decides to pull his finger out, he'll do well for you. Congratulations on your free 4 million...:celt_2:

Why the * would I support Holland or Brazil. Im Irish through and through.
I just thought this guy was quick to shoot down old firm fans as he put it.
I have my opinion and you have yours

Lets face it lafferty is crap playing for a crap national team with a crap national stadium. If NI fans against lennon and so on then why would they build their new national stadium on the site of the maze prison?
    1. Cause they did not want it outside of Belfast
    2. Cause they would not let there be a memorial to the brave fallen in 1981.

That is obviously a nation that is doinng all it can to change

    What a Joke

i'm not going to get into a debate of Northen Ireland troubles. i just do not feel that nationality, race or religion should be a factor in our signing policy.
