Maybe the Huns and Ross County could just move their next fixture forwards and play each other with 500 assorted bigots watching.

Hope that turns out to be right. In fairness it would be only doing what is the right and obvious thing to do in the current circumstances.

    Stewart Robertson, March 2020:

"I reiterate Steven Gerrard’s comments this morning that football is secondary to the health and well-being of the citizens of the United Kingdom. Life is precious and as a society, we must endeavour to do everything we can to protect the most vulnerable in our community...

...Furthermore, we are strongly opposed to playing games behind closed doors. Rangers fans have stuck by our club in the darkest of times. Their loyalty will not be forgotten and they will not be left behind."

    What changed Stewart?

I could agree with you here if things were getting closed down, but they're not. It's only numbers that are being limited and it seems football is being singled out, even more so than hospitality.

Your point does hold water with regard to hospitality but, Imo, not football. The delay in starting the football restrictions would be equally unpopular wether they were introduced immediately or later. If football crowds are such a super spreader why are they allowing one more round of it.

That's why I added the last sentence. I don't agree with the decisions, just not for the same reasons as others. Not sure what to add :39:

I'll believe it when I see it. The thought that those in charge would actually do the sensible thing for once is just too preposterous for me to expect it to happen.

You have a choice whether to be vaccinated or not, black people are not black by choice.

CELTIC earlier called for the January 2 Old Firm game to be postponed — and the winter break brought forward.

The Hoops are backed by NINE Premiership rivals, after crowds were restricted to just 500 for at least three weeks.

Crisis talks have taken place between Premiership clubs following First Minister Nicola Sturgeon’s bombshell ruling.

SunSport understands at least ten club are in favour of an early break, providing Sky Sports agree to reschedule live games.

The SPFL board held talks with clubs and TV chiefs and the ten members will make the decision by a majority vote.

A Hoops statement said: “Celtic can confirm it has requested the SPFL bring forward the scheduled winter break and reschedule the fixtures affected by the regulations announced.

“The game owes it to supporters to explore all opportunities to maximise the prospect of all supporters being able to attend matches and support the game they love.”

The majority of Premiership clubs want the league paused for three weeks after tonight’s fixtures. Aberdeen, Celtic, Hibs, Livingston and Motherwell have all made public calls for the shutdown to begin earlier than January 3.

It’s understood Dundee, Dundee United, Hearts, St Johnstone and St Mirren are also in favour, if a revised fixture list is possible.

But leaders Rangers and Ross County are not among the clubs backing the early break plans.

The champions have vital away games against Aberdeen and Celtic coming up before the break.

Gers also face losing Nigerian trio Joe Aribo, Leon Balogun and Calvin Bassey for a chunk of January due to the Africa Cup of Nations.

But with Celts currently dealing with an extensive injury list, senior Scottish football figures want to avoid an Old Firm-driven spat. Motherwell chief executive Alan Burrows wants an early break, and urged clubs and fans to look at the bigger picture.

He said: “I’ve grown up in the west of Scotland and I understand it. But we all have to forget injuries, suspensions and 500 fans for this Old Firm game, against 50,000 at Ibrox.

“I know it’s important to supporters and it plays a big part in things. But look at St Johnstone playing Celtic on Boxing Day and what that would normally bring to them in cash.

“Think of Aberdeen and the money they will lose from their home games.

“These clubs have had 18 months of real tough times of trying to stay afloat and we need to stick together.

“We need to be above the, I don’t want to say pettiness as that’s what makes football great, but this is a global pandemic.

“While these restrictions are in place, we have to do what is fundamentally right for Scottish football.

“If we can protect the supporters coming to games, let’s try our best to do that.

“I understand the difficulties facing the SPFL, but I believe there are ample dates to fit in fixtures.

“Playing games with 500 fans should be the last resort, not the first resort.”

Hibs also issued a statement supporting the idea of an early winter break.

It said: “Every effort should be made to allow supporters to watch their team and the game they love.

“The club also believes this will protect the integrity of the competition and would save clubs from the potential loss of substantial revenue.”

SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster vowed to do everything to help clubs.

He sits on the board with chairman Murdoch MacLennan, independent non-executive director Karyn McCluskey, Ron Gordon (Hibs), James MacDonald (Ross County), Stewart Robertson (Rangers), Les Gray (Hamilton), Ross McArthur (Dunfermline), Alastair Donald (Forfar Athletic) and Paul Hetherington (Airdrieonians).

But discussions with the broadcast partner Sky will be key to what happens next.

They are due to show four live games over the festive period, between Boxing Day and January 3.

Doncaster said: “Our clubs have adapted quickly and effectively to previous restrictions and we will work with them in implementing the guidance in the coming days.”

Key moment for public health and Scottish football. I'm sure Sky will do the right thing :fear:.
