I've travelled fairly extensively with my old job and met far more people with 'Celtic leanings' than Huns. Whilst in the Yemen I played in a friendly with some students I had been involved with and four of them turned up with the hoops on :50: one guy turned up in a Huns top from the eighties and was ridiculed by almost everybody!

four leaf clover, just cant get enough.
Ive run into a few British ex-pats who support R*ngers as their second team but never seen any tops on them. Saw a few last time I was in Chicago (on St. Paddies, weirdly enough). First time I actually ran into a guy wearing a Hun top was in the Cincinnati airport on my same flight. He was a Glaswegian contractor on his way to North Carolina for some reason (was wearing my hoops as I normally do when I travel). Pretty nice guy but his fat kid smelt like *.

I was in Nicosia, Cyprus during afternoon rush hour when my car broke down & I happened to be wearing my Hoops. As I was stood with the bonnet lifted a car pulled alongside me and out got an Eastern European gent who from then on referred to me as "Mr Moravcik" as he happily pointed to the club crest.

He spoke limited English & soon phoned his friend who was a Turkish Cypriot mechanic, who only spoke Turkish & Russian and he took a look about the engine and quickly decided how he would fix it up. This required spares so we all hopped in his truck and set off deep into a bustling residential area of the capital.

During the ride the mechanic was trying to tell me that he was an Omonia Nicosia fan and shaking my hand and making gestures which roughly translated to "APOEL - *, R*ngers - *" to which we all agreed!!

Finally we got to the spares shop, which was half shop and half bar where it seemed and I was being stared at by everyone as the total stranger but things changed immediatley. The shop owner behind the counter called me over "here Mr Celtic" and behind his counter had several shirts on the ceiling - Barca, Man Utd, Fenerbache (Turkish area of the city) and of course Celtic.

I shook hands with all the staff and even the old men at the bar offered their hands to me and each one mentioned different words & names all part of our clubs history, "Samaras" said a young Cypriot, "Henrik Larsson" said another which gained nods of approval from all present. "Internazionale" said one older man with a wry smile and he pointed to our star, I left with my car repaired and full of pride in my beloved club.

Sod the AA that was the best breakdown service ever! All these stories just go to show we are known worldwide and for all the right reasons! More than we can say for others eh?

Meant to add - Zurawski was playing for Omonia Nicosia at the time, did really well in his short time there and helped them to a league win I think.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Cypriot club (Omonia Nicosia) think "mini-Panathanaikos". They play in green & white colours, and their club crest is also shamrock. Their city rivals are APOEL Nicosia, with whom they share the GSP Stadium which is also used as the national stadium.
