That’s a great result, Southampton have some brilliant prospects in their squad at the 16-18 age range

    RANGERS… 0

Celtic FC B kicked off their Glasgow Cup campaign by defeating rivals Rangers in an impressive 3-0 win this afternoon (Wednesday) at Lennoxtown.

Two quick-fire goals from Daniel Cummings and Ben Quinn in the first half handed the Hoops a well-deserved advantage before the break, with the win sealed by Jude Bonnar early in the second half.

Having lifted the trophy last campaign, the Bhoys began their defence of the trophy by welcoming their Glasgow rivals to Rangers. And from the off it was clear there was going to be one winner, with the Celts dominating much of the early stages.

Bruno Davidson was causing trouble down the right for the visitors, driving forward and having the first shot of the game, which was ultimately blocked.

Throughout the opening 45 minutes, Celtic were able to pin the visitors back as they aimed to try and carve open opportunities in front of goal.

After continuing to work the Rangers backline, the breakthrough came for the young Hoops just before the half-hour mark as Daniel Cummings opened the scoring.

His first effort inside the area was saved, but the forward did well to react quickest to the loose ball, sticking it home into the back of the net at the second time of asking.

Just two minutes later, the Celts found the back of the net once more, this time through Ben Quinn.

Magnus Mackenzie was another player who proved to be a thorn in Rangers’ side all afternoon, and the full-back’s delivery found the Irishman, who smashed with ball home on the volley.

Despite Celtic’s dominance, the away side did have a big opportunity just before the break as Josh Clarke was called into action. However, the Celtic keeper was a match for the close-range effort.

Heading into the second half, it was an even affair between the two sides, but the Bhoys denied Rangers from having many clear-cut chances on goal.

The next goal would prove to be important on the match, and it was the Celts who would pop up to grab it.

Following some nice play down the left hand, Mackenzie found the late run of Jude Bonnar, who calmly side-footed the ball underneath the Rangers shot-stopper.

It was a superb all-round performance from the young Celtic side, who came away with three points and a clean sheet to kick-off their Glasgow Cup campaign.

CELTIC: Clarke, Donovan, Mackenzie, Agbaire, Robertson, Ure, Davidson (Kyle 65), Thomson (McArdle 8), Cummings (Dobbie 65), Bonnar (Turley 77), Quinn.
    Subs: Morrison, Osagie, Bonetig

Looks like a good performance could Mackenzie be worth a go at left back? Not sure if he’s had many games for the b team this year but looks to do what we need a full back to do offensively get high and wide and put decent deliveries into the box.

    CELTIC… 7
    (Robertson 9, Cummings 19, 35 & 47, Quinn 60, Dobbie 70, Isiguzo 89)

    CIVIL SERVICE STROLLERS… 0

Celtic FC B rounded off February in style on Wednesday evening, running out 7-0 winners over Civil Service Strollers at the Excelsior Stadium.

Goals from Mitchell Robertson, Ben Quinn, Lewis Dobbie, Samuel Isiguzo and a Daniel Cummings hat-trick sealed an impressive victory for the Hoops.

The opening goal of the night came from central defender, Mitchell Robertson, who glanced the ball home from a set-piece after just nine minutes.

It took just a further 10 minutes for Celtic to double their advantage, with Daniel Cummings scoring his first of a trio on the night.

There was some fantastic football on display from the young Academy side, and the forward was on hand to smash the ball home from close-range after a well-worked move just before the 20-minute mark.

Before the break, Cummings added to another goal, showcasing his clinical edge inside the area with a ruthless touch and finish to make the score 3-0 heading into half-time.

The striker was in no mood to stop there either as the match entered the second half, scoring just two minutes after the restart, producing another delighted finish beyond on-loan Rangers goalkeeper Jacob Pazikas.

On the hour mark, Ben Quinn got in on the scoring act, tucking the ball home into the back of an empty net after some unselfish play from Bruno Davidson on the right-hand side.

Putting in an impressive all-round performance as one of the two forwards leading the line for the Hoops, Lewis Dobbie was next to grab a well-deserved goal.

The youngster, who recently scored a hat-trick against Gala Fairydean Rovers, followed that up with another strike on Wednesday evening, working himself space from his marker to head the ball home from close-range.

And the scoring was rounded off in the dying stages of the match by substitute Samuel Isiguzo.

The youngster, who has recently stepped up to the B team, grabbed a goal on just his second appearance for the young Hoops, rounding off another brilliantly-worked team goal inside the area.

It was an entertaining night of action at the Excelsior Stadium as the Celts made it six wins from six in February with an emphatic victory.

To mark what was a fantastic evening for the Celtic Youth Academy, B team regular Daniel Kelly scored his first senior goal at Paradise in a 7-1 victory over Dundee for Brendan Rodgers' side.

CELTIC: Morrison, Bonetig, Mackenzie (Kyle 61), Robertson, Agbaire, Ure (McArdle 79), Davidson (Hatton 79), Osagie (Isiguzo 79), Dobbie, Cummings (Turley 79), Quinn.
    Subs: McLean, Donovan

Interesting that the recent upturn in B team form seems to have come with a number of the better know boys being away out on loan and the younger group playing together.

I know the standard is poor they are playing at but realistically Clarke, Frame, Anderson, Lawal, McPherson, Carse, Kelly and Vata would have all likely played ahead of some of those guys if available to the B team last night and they won 7-0.

I like Cummings the striker, there is a bit of an old school number 9 about him. Quite big but mobile and is a good finisher in and around the box.
