I think it was MON's second season Sky offered the SFA a slightly increased offer to what they had given us in previous seasons. The SFA, in their infinite wisdom, said we could do better which we never and had to settle for a cut-price bid from BBC. I reckon if we had kept the SKY deal then our league would have flourished - it wasn't far off the EPL in terms of standard then and with more money it would have went upwards.

First off Dermot Desmond is a business man, who likes Celtic! Not loves, likes!
Secondly he doesn't have 1.5 billion to spend. Majority off that is assets, other businesses and shares worth! But he does have plenty to offer, yet hasn't!
Thirdly And The major reason is that he would have to wait longer for a return of his 'investment by injecting cash into us.

I think him and O'Brien should give 5m each into the transfer budget to go and buy players. I mean both of them are 2 of the richest men on the football boards in the UK, but they are scared of no return of their money.

DD has ploughed in millions over the years....when nobody else was shouting about coming in and investing in us!

His personal fortune is irrelevant as he has never ran us as a "toy" or claimed to be a sugar daddy. He runs us and rightly so as a prudent business.

If you are aware of stock exchange rules you will also be aware he CANNOT just say "heres £10m by the way..get some new players in" out of his own pocket....without increasing his shareholding.

If you want to criticise the man at least know what you are talking about.

DD hasnt taken a dividend from the club...one he is entitled to. He backed MON all the way to a euro final and numerous titles....he backed strachan to 3 titles too....hes backed TM with signings and paid to get rid of him.....replaced him and brought in players for Lennon.....and continues to look to do so prior to the window closing.

If some want him out who do you suggest takes over from him???? jeez

The problem is if the team are not sucessfull on the park then we could end up playing to a half empty CP . Then see what happens to the finances .

Indeed. The fans who do claim to love the club actually end up killing it....in a way

DD is a great asset to have at our club, esp in these times where we could see an end to celtic forever if we recklessly spend. FFs just look at the state teh world is in because of it. DD doesnt have 1.5bill to spend, like someone mentioned before its all assets, shares etc.. . Hes a real smart business man who knows what hes at and every penny is suppose to make money , not just waste it. Even if he were to give us 10mill each season to spend on players , you will have idots shouting for 20-30mill. We arent doing that well lately but we will come good again. I would hate for us to end up in some serious debt and everything go pearshaped, i just cant imagine my life without celtic.

well the board backed lennon last year and although some fans run out the line that a league is won and lost over a season....Celtic had it in their hands and blew it at inverness...the manager had all the tools necessary to win that league...and be trying to qualify for the CL this season.

I hope the fans are faithful thru and thru like we claim and back the team

If this guy left Celtic then we wouldnt have a football club. End of! Who is going to want to buy celtic? People go on about this o brian guy and all these other billionaire fans that we have. If they were that bothered by celtic they would have bought the club by now. Or at least tried to buy the club. Which none of them have. People have to realise that if we spend money we dont have we will be like that manky mob across the street....and they were in a horrible situation....something i hope celtic never comes close to. Its all good saying...."if i had his billions i would invest at least X amount into celtic for transfers every season". Thats the reason you dont have his billions....you have no idea of buisness. This guy has made his billions on his own....not by the help of Celtic FC. What does he owe celtic? * all. I wouldnt invest my hard earned money in this * crap. The man who needs to be accounted for is Lawell....im pleased we are basically debt free....its fantastic. But there has to be a happy medium. An amount of debt celtic can live with, yet not too much it puts us in danger and a decent amount of money to spend on transfers. Lets remember that all this negative hype is coming after last nights match. A stupid decision from Majstorovic cost us this match....nothing else. And i guess you could say Ki * up big time as well. But we probably wouldnt have been in that position if Majstorovic hadnt panicked. We have the team to do things. When you look at our team i think our defence could maybe do with another CH but i still think we have a fantastic midfield. We definatly need a Striker up top that will score goals which sammy doesnt do. And is also a target man. We have the back bone of a good team....it maybe needs help with experience though.

    Agreed.

We do have debt though...and its rising as recent figures werent the final picture. I'm sure lennon will get to bring in 1 or 2 more players.

yeah hopefully mate. Im sure thats all we need. A couple of players. Hes bound to bring in a striker if he has let Murphy go on loan. And CH...well i think we could probably live without one if he wanted to bring in a decent LB on loan for 6 months until Emillo is back.

I just hope DD, PL, etc. continue to have the mental fortitude to absolutely IGNORE discussions like these.

It's all very well and good for wee bhoys to fantasise about what THEY would do if they had billions in the bank, but it's a completely different issue when it's you who has built up that fortune! DD is not stupid... you can't be stupid and get to where he has in life. He knows how to play the money game.

Wise-up and acknowledge that Celtic cannot... they just cannot... splash cash like they did under the MON rule. Even if we could, the type of players the wee bhoys want to see in the Hoops would not come! The only ones who would would be the overpaid mercenaries reaching the end of their careers who couldn't give a stuff about the club or its fans!

Celtic FC is being run very prudently at a time when there is a financial meltdown taking place on a global scale that is taking out PROPER blue-chip companies left, right and centre.

An overspending team in the SPL would fold in a season or two... EVEN the mighty Celtic!

Just be grateful that we have such a sound financial footing just now... and the 2 men you should thank for that are DD and PL!

Finally, who do some of you think you are? And why are you living in a rosy 1960's bubble, when I bet most of you weren't even born in the decade!?

We were kings of football at a time when the game could barely have been described as professional and when most of the world's footballing emergers were desperately trying to establish where their next meal was coming from, far less having the time to kick a leather ball around the place!

Scottish football is *, because we are, a) a small nation, b) we do not breed winners and c) we do breed greetin faced gobshites who think the world owes them (and anything they hold dear - i.e. Celtic FC) a living!

The world does not owe us a living. You have to earn it! Stop whining about what DD is not doing and think about what YOU could be doing! Do you take your laddie to the park and play football with him? Do you take him to training? Do you take the neighbors kids? Do you get involved with local coaching sessions? Do you speak pish to your boy about how 'getting stuck in' is the only way to play? Do you lobby your MP and ask for him / her to do something to improve sporting excellence amongst our youth?

Or do you just spout frustrated pish because you're stuck in a decade in which you weren't even born!?

Shut the * up! Just zip it because whilst you may impress the other wee bhoys, you make an absolute fool of yourself to those of us with half a brain!

And as for thinking that we should jump ship to the EPL... would you sell your own soul to the devil so readily?

The Scots (and I am a passionate one) really do my nut in these days! We live off past glories and cannot accept that the rest of the world has caught up with us in almost every regard and in most cases overtaken us because we came to rest on our own laurels (largely perpetuated by no-mark gobshites who assumed all Scottish success as somehow being their own!).

We are a nation of whining, bitter nobodies and I am sick of it!

Thats not accepting not winning...its accepting and acknowledging our current position.

We can still win the SPL.

Was it Alan Sugar (probably not) who was asked how you become a millionaire? He replied, "well you start off being a billionaire... and then you buy a football club".

Absolute money pits, and there's no guarantee of success! It's all very well and good gambling large chunks of cash in the rich-EPL, but you just could not survive doing that in the SPL.

The best you can hope for in the likes of the SPL is to get your team on a solid financial footing, and as DD say... work hard to build a good board, coaching staff and playing team. These things rarely happen overnight, they happen over time using the trial and error formula.

As a 'fan' we have to endure this... it's all part of the 'agony / ecstasy' experience!

I heard a rumour a while back that Desmond was no longer interested in us and the only reason he has stuck around is because of his sons love of the club.

Would love to see them go into their pockets and pull out a 3-4M CB and striker, but i wont hold my breath.

DD and PL has done wonders for our club! it wasnt to long ago we nearly didnt exist! out league does not allow us to spend big anymore and has us by the knackers!

people need to realise what a job job these lads have done for our club. in the current ecomnomic climate its impossible to be certian of the future.

I laugh as everyone turned against the bankers when they spent money or loaned money they didnt have so why the * should we be allowed todo as a football club??total double standards.
