To be fair, He's probably invested a lot in the past and ended up paying for people who never got a game and then got shifted off at the next transfer window.

The blame Shouldn't be put on him just because he's the major shareholder, it's his money and it's his choice what he does with it. I'm sure if he truly believed it would instantly improve the team and help us win everything then he would do it but chances are we would end up signing some dead weight if we got an instant lump sum.

i dont think we are asking for to much money just actually buy a defender and a good striker. spending money obviously doesn't guarantee success but has been proven in the past to work with the likes of hartson, lennon, sutton ect i just feel we are being short changed .

This is all utter bullshit which he is saying to make the fans happy. Basically hes saying eh doesnt want to spend money on the club and using phrases like "celtic is a family" to keep fans happy.

Well sorry Mr Desmond but being a shareholder of a major club cannot just be emotional, it is also financial and as much as you are afraid to spend your money, you ahve a duty to. PS you are a Billionaire you *.

DD's been asked this before and he didn't respond to well claiming "he has no more responsibility than anyone else to put money into the club" which I thought was an odd statement.

However he never refused a transfer for any player MON wanted. He did invest the lennoxtown money. He's spent millions underwriting several share issues, he's also spent a good amount mapping Celtics route to the EPL and I think this is why it's important for DD to see Celtic Debt free, as this is a huge plus why we should be in the EPL.

A this rate he can map us into the EPL and then straight relegated to the mid-table of the Championship. This is ridiculous. We need to re-affirm our dominance in Scotland and in Europe by signing real talent to the squad and stop being cheap every single * transfer window when we need the talent desperately. I was just watching the 2007 game where we beat AC MILAN at home 2-1 and this team just absolutely cannot compare to what we had even then. Its a shame how low we've gone

im afraid to say, that lenny could be financing a change of playing staff himself ,but has failed to do so...desmond already changed round the wages/bonus structure..it kind of worked cos strachan had less money than o,neil and outperformed him,but by the look of things old chesney had a few less fly,s on him so to speak.....lennon has never publicly said the board has,nt backed him ...so im taking this as blue..or lennys a yes man .

Dermot Desmond does have enough shares given the proxy he receives from the lady in Ireland to control Celtic Football Club, so that effectively puts him in charge.

It's time he actually stood up and told the Celtic supporters what his goals are for this once great club, because based on the majority of time under his tenture the club have been on the slide on the park.

I would like to have proof of where Mr Desmond has invested his own money during his time at Celtic, yes he bought his shares, but I don't see any evidence of financially backing his managers with any great conviction.

Personally I think it's time for him to be held to account for his actions, most Celtic fans will want to know what he plans to do to halt the slide in our European standing. If he doesn't want to stand up and explain, then perhaps it's time for him to go and take lying Lawwell with him.:47::47::47::47::47:

thank * some people posting in this thread aren't running our club. celtic should not spend what they can't afford, and should not rely on some sugar daddy to solve our problems. can people not realise this is how teams like leeds, birmingham, portsmouth (and they were in far richer leagues than celtic) and dare i say it the huns are in the positions they are now. it's such a short sighted approach, and will eventually cause more harm than good. in 10, 15, 20 years time teams like chelsea and man city will be a distarious situation, like many clubs are being arteficially propped up by single investors, and who knows with the ever-changing economic climate, coupled with fact these individuals may very well become disinterested and put their money into another 'hobby'.

he is correct though. :97:. lennon, desmond, lawwell and the rest of the board and playing staff are responsible for the position that we are in at the minute. but to suggest that dermot desmond throws money at the club, and that will solve our problems, is short-sighted and completely wrong in my opinion.

Agreed, we are suffering the consequences of outspending under O'Neill right now. Tbh though the board's performance in January 2009 was unforgiveable and we are still suffering as a result.

No, Strachan suffered from the outspending of MON and look at the results he gave us. We're pretty much debt free now.

Agreed but Scottish football as a whole is still recovering from outspending back in those days - as well as the SFA's failure to take a Sky deal around 8 years ago and then again 3 years ago. We are pretty much debt-free but we don't have the same income as we did under O'Neill due to performance and such like and therefore we are still suffering from such outspending. Seville saved us from having to sell a lot of players around that period with the income it generated.

Agreed, I'm sure the SPL bigwigs are still kicking themselves over turning down the Sky offers as it's now evident how much Sky's deals kept our league afloat. Perhaps the SPL naunces thought our league was worth more value but that's definitely not the case. Sadly, as a whole it's in a sinking phase and something radical has to be done before the standard of Scottish football sinks even lower.
