    That’s an exaggeration.

Look at the lineup when we beat Barca 2-1, then next year when they beat us 6-1.

Wanyama out, Van Dijk in is really the only big difference.

So what part of that post even remotely uses the Barca game as a criticism?

Fair enough but as I said his first season was good but the next two were a shambles, worst home record in Everton’s history. Also lost the most games from a winning position than any other Everton manager. And when you look at those stats compared to Moyes then it’s not that great so it’s slightly skewed imo.

When you’re saying that it’s all it comes down to. When you’re the only person bringing it up and trying to do so in a negative manner :50:

As I’ve said, I think he did a fine job. But there’s too many negatives for me, regarding his first spell.

His cup record, and 3 out of his 4 European campaigns are enough for him to be a no for me.

Well that makes absolutely no sense man :giggle1:

You quoted me and mentioned Rodgers not being backed. I quoted you and suggested that he was well backed relative to other recent managers.

There was no * hidden agenda or attempt at reverse psychology :giggle1:

That’s fair enough mate, for me it’s one of the best jobs I’ve seen at Celtic, some of the best football I’ve seen and I’d love to see what he could do being properly backed rather than our board hindering him.

Are you thick? Saying some people wanting him as manager because he beat Barca 7 years ago isn’t criticising us beating Barca.

    Genuinely mental take.

I never said there was any agenda or psychology. I’m just asking why you replied in the first place when my post was about people who felt Rodgers wasn’t backed with enough ambition but now think Lennon is the best we can get.

If you thought Rodgers was backed enough then I don’t get why you replied in the first place :56:

Some people? You categorically said the only reason people would want him is because he beat Barca, trying to spin into some sort of criticism of Lenny. Like an absolute lunatic.

I've not seen anyone on the thread pin their flag to the mast in the Lennon camp.

What I have seen is various posters try to bring up several significant mitigating factors regarding our current squad and situation.

The cold hard facts are we're further ahead in the league than when he took over, on the brink of completing 8 in a row and we're still in the Scottish Cup with a huge game on Sunday.

It's okay if Lennon isn't your first choice, he isn't mine (nor is he @King of Kings going by his posts) but some of the stuff written on here is hysterical.

The point about the learning curve was for the first 2 seasons.

On that 4th season vvd took some time before he developed into a good player for us. Pukki to Hooper was a huge downgrade. Vic was colossal for us in Europe and Wilson had bedded in week a chance.
But yeah it was a disappointing campaign but it was followed by a record breaking clean sheet run domestically something that is rarely mentioned.

Again. If you genuinely think saying people want him because we beat Barca is the same as criticising him for beating Barca you’re genuinely behaving like a *.

Your point really is pointless, when you consider he was Everton's most well funded manager since 1990.

He spent 100 million in 3 years, half of that being net spend.

David Moyes spent 130 million in 11 years, (123 million of that funded by the players he sold)

    David Moyes 42.1% win percentage
    Roberto Martinez 42.7% win percentage

    Which is more impressive?

The Barca result was a one off, and I understand where people are coming from when they say look at our team v Barca compared to next season, and that maybe we shouldn’t excuse our poor CL campaign in 2013/14 under Lennon.

However getting ten points in a CL group stage isn’t a fluke. It’s the sign of a very good team, no matter the opposition in that group. We then literally lost the spine of the team. Van Dijk came in the next season but was still very young at the time and if you rip the spine out of any team it is always going to be weaker and need time to adjust. Not really sure what people would have expected in that campaign.

As for his second European campaign which seems to be getting scrutinised in here as well - we were in a very tough EL group, Udinese and Atletico Madrid and our performances were very good and I’d argue they provided a major building block in terms of European football under Lennon at the time.

Lennon isn’t perfect and I’m not sure if I even want him as manager but it seems like people are actually looking for reasons to criticise him.

Pulling the classy card after calling me a lunatic. Brilliant.

At least try and explain how saying that the people who want Lennon seem to keep coming back to the Barca result is the same as criticising Lennon for beating Barca.

You’re handwaving any argument that people have brought up in favour of Lenny, ‘because its just cos he beat Barca’

And you know you’re doing it, so leave it at that, you’re trying to drag what can be a decent conversation into some petty bullshit. Some cracking points in here inbetween your hissy fits.
