THE club’s Celebrate ’67 event on Thursday, May 25 at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro will have three special Celtic guests taking to the stage on the night.

Legendary player, Kenny Dalglish, and former managers Martin O’Neill and Gordon Strachan are all taking part in the event, which is sponsored by Creditfix, and they will speak during the night, which is a celebration of the club’s extraordinary 1967 European Cup success.

The Hydro event, which promises to be a special Celtic night, takes place exactly 50 years to the day since Jock Stein’s Celtic side beat Inter Milan in the heat of Lisbon to become the Kings of Europe, and the three Celtic greats will be assured of a rapturous reception from supporters.

Kenny Dalglish actually signed his first provisional form with Celtic just three weeks before the 1967 European Cup final, and then joined the club full-time a year later following a spell with junior side, Cumbernauld United. He made his debut in September 1968 and went on to make a total of 320 appearances for the Hoops, scoring an incredible 166 goals before leaving for Liverpool in 1977.

In that last season as a Celtic player, King Kenny captained the Hoops to the league and Scottish Cup double – the last major trophy won by Jock Stein during his incredible reign at the club.

Following an equally illustrious career in the red of Liverpool, Kenny moved into management, and returned to Paradise in 1999 when John Barnes was appointed manager, and he briefly took over the reigns in the last few months of that season, during which time the Hoops won the League Cup.

Martin O’Neill was appointed as Celtic manager in June 2000 and famously promised, on the steps outside Celtic Park, that he would do everything possible to bring success to the football club. He did just that to an incredible degree – winning the domestic treble in his first season in charge, equalling an achievement that had only previously been achieved by Jock Stein in 1967 and ’69, and which Brendan Rodgers’ side now stand on the cusp of completing. And in the course of that famous 2000/01 season, there was the stunning 6-2 demolition derby win at Paradise.

Having established domestic dominance, Martin’s Celtic side re-established the club’s European reputation, culminating in the incredible 2002/03 UEFA Cup campaign that saw the Hoops reach the final in Seville. The following season there was another UEFA Cup run which, although it finished before the final, did include an historic two-legged victory over Barcelona. Martin left Celtic in 2005, with the gratitude and adulation of the Celtic supporters. He is now manager of the Republic of Ireland national side.

Martin was succeeded in the managerial hot-seat at Celtic Park by Gordon Strachan, and Gordon’s Celtic side continued to enforce the club’s position as Scotland’s top side, winning three league titles in a row – an achievement that, again, had not been done since Jock Stein’s side had done so in the 1960s, on their way to an historic nine-in-a-row success. And no-one will ever forget the way that Gordon inspired the team to the 2007/08 league title while having to cope with the devastating loss of his friend and colleague, Celtic legend Tommy Burns.

And in Europe, there were some incredible nights, including a 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Paradise courtesy of a breathtaking Shunsuke Nakamura free-kick – a win which booked the club’s place in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League, a feat that was repeated the following season. Gordon, who left Celtic 2009, is manager of the Scotland national side.

The Celtic Family, as always, will be delighted to welcome these three great Celtic figures to be part of this special celebration of 1967.

WE are delighted to reveal that Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers, will be joining the all-star Celebrate ’67 line-up on stage at the SSE Hydro to honour the Lisbon Lions on Thursday, May 25.

In his first season in charge at Celtic Park, Brendan Rodgers’ side have achieved great things in what has been a record-breaking campaign. It’s fitting that all of this has been achieved in the 50th anniversary year of the club's triumph in Lisbon.

Looking forward to the event, the manager said, “Whenever we gather as Celtic supporters for occasions like these, they are always a great cause for celebration, and what could be better than celebrating our European Cup triumph of 1967 while also enjoying the success we’ve achieved this season.”

There are still a few hundred tickets remaining on general sale for this once-in-a-lifetime star-studded event, sponsored by Creditfix. It promises to be a special Celtic night, taking place exactly 50 years to the day since Jock Stein’s Celtic side beat Inter Milan in the heat of Lisbon to become the Kings of Europe.

Tickets are priced from £55, with some fantastic seats still available and, what’s more, net proceeds from the event go to Celtic FC Foundation.

I don't know why it popped into my head today but i was thinking "Big Jock would be proud of Celtic this season.
The Green Brigade standing up to UEFA with the matchthefineforpalestine fund raising, Brendan taking over and rejuvenating the team, Winning 2 out of 3 with one trophy still to come, the support for Scott Sinclair in the racism row, the 2 5-1 hammerings of the huns, the unbeaten run and not forgetting our respect for the legends that are The Lisbon Lions."

    * Bless you Jock Stein.

Stars and supporters will gather alongside a number of the Lisbon Lions themselves for a gala evening on Thursday, May 25 with the last remaining tickets available now.

Tickets are priced from £70 and some fantastic seats are still available with net proceeds from the event going to Celtic FC Foundation.

The countdown to the event kicked-off yesterday with Lisbon Lion Jim Craig at the SSE Hydro speaking about what promises to be a spectacular show:

“It’s going to be a great night and everybody’s looking forward to it. The memories from Lisbon are as fresh as ever. I’ve been lucky enough to go all over the world and meet Celtic fans everywhere and they give you a really good time and I’m sure they’ll do the same at the Hydro.”
