Carl Starfelt has opened up on his future at Celta Vigo amid “transfer rumours”.

The Swedish defender left Celtic for Spain back in 2023 having lifted five trophies in two years in Glasgow. He was a rock at the back alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers and his influence was clear


Starfelt has not always had the easiest time in La Liga with Celta with 57 appearances to his name but he is still enjoying his life at the club amid speculation linking him with a move away.

67 Hail Hail understands Celtic did have interest in taking Starfelt back to Parkhead last year as they sought a centre-half but they were priced out of a move for their ex-player.

And Como were also keen to take the defender, 29, to Italy to join forces with Cesc Fabregas’ newly promoted Serie A outfit


Now, though, Starfelt has broken his silence on the rumours he has heard and insisted he only wants to stay with his current club and he has not urged his agent to find him a new home.

“I feel very comfortable at Celta Vigo,” he told Fotbollskanalen. “Then there will always be rumours. But I have a contract for two more years after this season and, as I said, I feel very comfortable.

“It’s also great that we’re fighting for Europe this year. It would of course be an extra carrot to stay. But there will always be rumours. You never know what will happen, but I’m enjoying it very much


“I haven’t spoken to my agent about it at all. He obviously knows that I’m enjoying it very much. Then I focus on my football and he’ll take care of the rest

 

Would he be an upgrade on what we already have? Not really but saying that, would be a decent squad player.
A move will likely depend on where we are with current center halfs at the end of season. Who knows, maybe BR will decide to give the like of Rockie and or Larger a shot.

To say he was a 'rock' is a bit of selective memory.
Decent enough defensively but struggles to play out from back and prone to errors.

 

He was excellent for us. We had an incredible record on winning games when both he and CCV were starting.

 

What was also overlooked, is the amount of attacks he started. Nawrocki looked capable of it when he came in, but has been reluctant.

 

In addition, I know Celta Vigo aren’t as big a club as others we have sold players too but Starfelt is fairly ever present for them and has been since going there where a number of our other sales haven’t really hit the heights.
