We're at polar sides of the debate, but I respect your opinion.

Ok so for AMERICANS you should be able to do both but your domestic club should be #1. On the case for European teams you shouldn't like a team just because they are deep in Champions League every year. I chose Celtic for many reasons. One is that I identify my self with the teams history and background. Like the majority of its supporters i am Catholic and Irish-American (working on my Irish citizenship right now).

:56: Ir Barca got relegated I would still back them.

If having family that support and live in Barcelona is a obscure link so be it.

    You would say that though...:86:

Seriously though if you have family from Catalunya then I can see why you like them, but I still stand by what I said, you can't properly support Barca if you wanted Celtic to beat them? For me you would be classed as a Celtic supporting Barcelona sympathiser/admirer.

I don't want to sound condescending, but it's a difficult point to put across without sounding like that, but that isn't how it is intended.

I see this issue in other sports in the US. like in the NFL I know people that are "fans" of the Steelers and Patriots. Now thats called a bandwagon haha

If any person on this forum is a dyed in green celtic man, passing fan who enjoys the way we play or just a wee bairn who shouts for the bhoys cause his daddy is a celtic fan, they are all welcome, our club is for all of them and more, dont understand why some on here think they can dictate what makes a "real" fan

+1 I hate how sometimes there are fans that get upset at others who like the club in any form. I see that here in the US a lot and that is not cool because I will discourage them from liking the team. Also that fan who people reject just because hes not like them can always support the rival team. So lets not discourage fans and teach them that Rangers are bad haha.

    Celtic only and my country.

I like Aston Villa, Barcelona and St. Pauli to do well though.

Does me liking Barca make me less of a Celtic fan? Considering I have only missed 4 Celtic games all season.

No, that was not my point at all, I think it makes you less of a Barca fan.

You are entitled to like whoever you please mate, and it doesnt make you any less passionate about the bhoys, just like myself been over to see barca and watch all their games on tv(unless they clash with hoops game), i dont say i love the hoops anymore than the next hoops fan but i dont love them any less either

You know, someone talked about using the word "we". I really like that-if you're willing to live and die with a team, then you can use "we". In Europe, I follow Celtic, the only team I'll use "we" for (we won, we lost, we have a big match Saturday). I really like Liverpool, but I'd never use "we" to talk about them. Same thing in American football-"we" is for the New York Giants and the University of Notre Dame, but Penn State and the Green Bay Packers are not.

I think, though, that the difference is whether or not you're willing to live and die with them. If Penn State's American football team was awful, I'd turn them off and stop worrying about it. I'd never do that with Notre Dame's American football team, I'd never do it with the New York Giants, and I'd never do it with Celtic. If there are multiple teams you'll suffer with, though, then I think you can fairly claim to support multiple teams.

How does it generally work in America with the college teams?

Would people for example support The Bulls and Duke, or would most people pick one or the other, the college games always seem to have huge crowds when I watch them, or is that just fellow students and parents?

football is a matter of life and death. Not sure if I could bring up love and the commitment for 2 teams at the same time.

there would always be trouble ahead, especially when they face each other. it's like loving 2 women at the same time. it might work for a while, but it's doomed to fail in the long run.
