Can never see it happening, dont know if they still do it but there used to be a bank in Michigan that were giving out firearms as an incentive to open an account, even car dealers were getting in on the act.

The difference, of course, is that they don't actually have to listen :86:

I personally don't see firearms ever being banned to be honest. I think there have been enough tragic incidents by now, to say that if they were going to be banned, then it would have happened already.

I think part of the problem is that when we talk of the US giving up their guns we usually only mean the citizens, don't we?

The Government certainly wouldn't be giving up their guns.

That's not part of the problem at all though, is it? It's a stupid suggestion.

James Madison originally proposed the Second Amendment to give citizens the opportunity to fight back against a tyrannical federal government, didn't he? It could be said that we're closer to seeing such a Government in the US than ever before.

Constitutional theorists, such as Tucker have been critical of "limiting gun ownership to the very wealthy, leaving the populace effectively disarmed". In this day & age the wealthy don't actually have to shoot the gun themselves, they have state police and army to do it for them.

Gun ownership could be considered the last real defence against a Government which seeks to continually curtail the freedoms and rights of its citizens.

I don't ever see firearms being banned in the US.

As said earlier in this thread, US citizens and their government value their 'right to bear arms' over the safety of their own children. This has been proven many times over the years with several school shootings, yet still it is perfectly legal for any psychopath to walk around with a gun in the name of 'self defence'.

It's not just guns that is the problem. Guns are legal in other countries yet have nowhere near the amount of crazed shootings.
The underlying problem needs to be looked at and addressed.

    I'm not picky.
Exactly. Stricter background checks & tighter laws would go a long way to helping issues.

Of course when you have idiots like the NRA saying rubbish like "arming more people will result in less gun crime" it doesn't help the situation. They are happy to blame music, films and games as being the reason why there's so much gun crime.

I am not against anyone owning a handgun for protection, or people hunting, but no one needs semi automatic rifles and other military style weapons for this.
