The more and more pressure builds, the better place we're in to take advantage of there frailties..

That was a terrible match. Not a lot of creativity in attack there, with a bit of discipline we could hold them off. Don't know why Kovacic wasn't playing.

I'd say you have it pretty much spot on. The midfielder dropping back for us was very apparent in the EL, with Mulgrew generally splitting the CB's, even to pick up possession.

I watched the majority of that and although I can't draw too many conclusions this is what I thought:

    - Ranocchia is towing a caravan back there, awkward on the ball, potential weak point
    - Juan is the polar opposite, good on the ball, fast but probably weaker in the more simple areas of defending
-Could be vulnerable on the counter
-Need to double up on Shaqiri, that was obvious though
-Not blessed with great pace judging by that, minus Shaqiri and Nagatomo.
-I expect Handanovic to play, so not going to comment on how pish their keeper was tonight.
-If Vidic plays alongside Ranocchia we could really hurt them with a bit of pace in behind.

I thought Brozovic was good, happy he's not playing against us

Nagatomo & Medel can be * off.

This result tonight does wonders for Inter morale. :smiley-laughing002:

Bottom line, they're still dangerous to us. This was Napoli they were up against and they were uncharacteristically vacant up front until the smart and quick goal, was that down to Inters shape, possibly.

Inter stretching the field equates to opposition players needing to cover more ground if they spread out, hence the reason you hardly seen more than 2 Napoli players in the Inters box on certain attacks.

Moving the ball quick against them will be difficult, we'll be prone to mistakes with a stretched field meaning we have more phases of the field to get past their players. Quick passing would be ideal if they played high and flat but that defensive diamond gives them more time and covering ability.

One thing is for sure is we'll be out our comfort zone in playing a style we've no much practice at. Positional discipline from Izzy is fundamental!!

I'd consider not using Commons any longer than 60 minutes, if we want to be more attacking at home first that is. We need work rate all over the park and sadly he doesn't offer much defensively.

I don't think there is a need for more than one defensive midfielder but solid fullbacks instead. VVD no wandering foward.

Is Griffiths the man to lead the line? Likely we'll need to sub on someone as a lot of harrying will be required.

I've a feeling this game would suit Nir down to the ground if we get the time on the ball I think we will. His positioning is top drawer.

I'm just babbling on here but I enjoy a fresh tactical battle but where I am lost is the attacking mids. Who do we play, do we use width or central players? I did say we could benefit from having width, Maybe one winger but do you trust Forrest with covering, is it required if we keep fullbacks deeper.

So may options I think my heads gonna explode :31::smiley-laughing002: Oh to be a manager eh!

    Bring it!

How were they? I know they lost to a late Higuain winner.

Any idea if the GB have got a big display planned? I know it's not everything but look at Barcelona, went into the game without a hope in * and came out on top! Not saying it was down to the atmosphere but can't deny it helped! Got my tickets:celt_2:

I'd be a lot more confident if they hadn't signed Podolski and (especially) Shaqiri. Still, by all accounts, they're a shambles at the minute, and, if we can get our defence in order, you never know.

    Smashing. :icon_mrgreen:

Still very concerned about Shaqiri, though. I've not seen any of Inter this year. Do they use him on the left or the right? If he's coming at us down their left wing, I'd be confident enough in Lustig, Denayer and Brown to be able to close him down between them, but if he was playing on the right (and therefore cutting inside onto his left foot), I'd be a lot more worried, with the space Izzy sometimes leaves. That being said, Biton's defensive positioning at left centre-mid has been spot on lately, and VVD tends to play on the left of central defence. Anyway, one quality addition to the team won't have solved all their woes, and, from the sound of things, we might have a chance, especially at home.

I think they played fairly well to be honest, but completely lacked creativity in the final third. Their defence was sometimes a bit shaky too when under pressure, buthey were dominant in midfield. I think it could have gone either way .

I think the team we'll face is actually weaker. Brozovic and Podolski are ineligibile, they have big njury problems in defence and Osvaldo is a big loss for them. I'd much rather face Shaqiri than Osvaldo

Podolski isn't included in their Europa squad.

Anyway OT: I don't see why we can't beat them as long as we play at our very best,

ATM they have quality players but are on a very poor run of form.

That's them lost 3 on the bounce, they're not great in the final 3rd but have a fair bit of pace all around. Defence is shaky under real pressure at times, Napoli showed playing it over the top was easy as long as there is pace up front and runs being made. They can move the ball quickly and have a good tempo.
Podolski didn't even play neither did a few others, don't think Mancini knows his best team.
