Constituents elect MP's, 'if' doesn't come into it. Who decides what is a major issue ? If we go down that road MP's will continually be abstaining or wanting to ask/ballot their constituents for every decision they are expected to make, then the whole of parliament will grind to a halt.

Its funny that the government fought so hard to prevent this but it has probably done them more good than harm seeing Labour look at complete odds with themselves.

"Whatever I may think of Jeremy Corbyn, at least the man has integrity and listens to the people who elected him.

    Unlike the SNP."

Irony clearly lost on some of the BBC commenters :giggle1:

That's what i mean. It's a pretty damning indication of today's society that it's one of the most liked comments on the BBC article

my thoughts exactly, how any * can have a go at sturgeon and the snp when these * do what they like I'll never know, to think people in this country would rather be governed by tories than actually put in place a government in an independent Scotland is something I'll never understand.

Some demographic stats on the brexit vote released today.

Probably nothing new but for stat geeks it is interesting to see. The only objection I have from looking at these is that the BBC miss the pretty obvious negative correlation between age and formal education, so there is a bit of 'double counting' going on in the conclusions.

I didn't need a graph to know old * and dafties voted to leave. Racism is rife amongst both, the main driving factor for Brexit despite protestations by leave voters to the contrary.

That's fine and all, but if the Tory government hurts England you can be sure it'll hurt us even more.
