Huge problem for us. Would fancy our chances much more if he were fit.

Big player obviously and our best defender in years, but we'll manage fine without him. Rest him up for as long as it takes to get rid of these annoying * niggles, he's no use to us missing our biggest games.

Really really missed him tonight. Brings a whole calmness to the squad whenever he plays and would have never stepped out of position like trusty did at points

His increasingly unreliability is becoming a big issue, I’m not for one minute suggesting we win that game with him last night, we’d have still been demolished but there’s no way we’d have defended as poorly as we did had he been playing.

If he’s not fit for Atalanta away it’s impossible to see anything other than another heavy defeat.

He brings the balance to the backline and composure, felt sorry for Scales last night having to cover Trusty & Taylor all game.

Brendan Rodgers made a point of saying CCV has missed 5 OUT OF THE LAST 12 games for Celtic in the Champions League. Sorry but CCV IS INJURY PRONE AND CANNOT BE RELIED UPON TO BE FIT for games like last night when we really needed him. He could be the greatest defender the world has ever seen but if he’s sitting back in Glasgow watching the game on TV then he’s useless.

Rodgers didn’t just mention this stat for no reason, he is only too aware that our best defender is often unavailable which is a huge problem.

He's not long spent £6m on a centre back that he should have known would be playing alongside Scales in the CL in that case.

He's obviously a big miss but I still think we would've been battered anyway..

The setup and tactics were all wrong..

Bigger problem is spending £15m on 4 CBs none of which improved our team or are adequate cover.

CCV for £6m is a steal even with his frequent unavailability. Just need a stronger squad.

You could have put CCV, Celtic level VVD and Celtic level Tierney in at left back and we would have still lost heavily setting up as we did last night. Dortmund's strength and weakness is how many players they commit to attack, at least 5 players but normally 6 or more.

We almost always had 5 or 6 players ahead of the ball so left our defence totally exposed and they always had at least one spare player open.

Teams who have done well against Dortmund have plenty of players goal side of the ball and back their forward line to be able to damage when they get up the park and are normally man to man against their defence. They play direct bypassing all those attacking players. We tried to play through it quite often and just gave the ball away leading to goals more often than not.

Could have had Saliba and VVD at CB last night. If you leave your CBs that exposed its always gonna be uphill.

Edit: similar message from Foley, above. I agree. My concern is the midfield set up.

One thing that he also brings is organisation and leadership at the back, he demands cover from those infront when it’s not happening. Still think we would have been scudded, but he’s a massive miss.

Brutal that he’s missed so many CL games. Needs to really prove he can stay fit this season (post this toe injury).

Desperately need to sign a CB in January. And a good one for once.

    Still haven’t adequately replaced Starfelt.

We’re hoping Cam will be ready for after the international break

He (Carter-Vickers) is working and putting his weight on it, and it’s easing off. It was just time with him and we’re hoping he’ll be nearly there after the break”

Having the last couple of weeks off + coming International break hopefully will be enough of a break to get his foot sorted and him back on the pitch. First 2 games after the break are top of the table clash with Aberdeen and a couple of days later, Atalanta, so we hopefully have our strongest XI - which includes CCV - fit and ready to go.

Cam will be joining training later on in this week and then have a good week leading into Aberdeen. So that's good

Cameron Carter-Vickers is back in training ahead of Celtic’s top of the table clash with Aberdeen.

It is a major lift to Brendan Rodgers and his squad to have the key defender back out on the grass, going into Saturday’s top two showdown. Both Celtic and Aberdeen have won their opening seven league games and the Hoops are just ahead on goal difference. The champions will be looking for the home victory to end Jimmy Thelin’s dream run and to go clear at the Premiership summit

Rodgers now has to decide how much game exposure to give him with Celtic facing a key Champions League trip to Atalanta next week. The American international has been out since last month with a toe injury. The 26-year-old hasn’t been involved since he limped out of the opening day Euro win over Slovan Bratislava late on. Aaron Trusty has come in and filled the void alongside Liam Scales since Carter-Vickers has been out injured
