Philips could have played the last half an hour, if not then Iwata. It's not difficult there are other options available if it is actually the case he wasn't fit to play the last 30 mins, actually thought he was doing OK. Even if either of those weren't available it doesn't make it right to put a returning player straight into a CL match.
