Cameron Carter-Vickers’ second season with Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic has come to an early end and the American defender isn’t expected to be back in action anytime soon.

Carter-Vickers is set to miss 3-4 months following knee surgery, a source close to the player confirmed to SBI. Carter-Vickers had been fighting through a knee injury during the second half of the season and was expected to head for surgery following Sunday’s Scottish Cup semifinal match, a source confirmed.

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou ruled Carter-Vickers out of the club’s final six matches of the season, which includes a Scottish Cup Final vs. Inverness CT later this month. The USMNT defender’s final appearance of the season came on Sunday as Celtic edged Glasgow rivals Rangers 1-0 at Hampden Park on Sunday.

Carter-Vickers, 24, joined Celtic on a permanent transfer last summer and has been one of the top defenders in the Premiership this season. The former Tottenham centerback totaled 39 combined appearances for Celtic, helping the current league-leaders win the Scottish League Cup and stay alive for a domestic treble.

He also appeared in the UEFA Champions League for the first time in his career.

Carter-Vickers has totaled 83 combined appearances for Celtic over two seasons, which has helped him fight his way back into the USMNT picture. However, his recent knee injury will force him to miss the USMNT’s CONCACAF Nations League and Gold Cup involvement.

A great shame. Hopefully he can rest and be ready for next season.

Would make sense seeing as Ange was wanting him to get it done earlier..

At least that's it done and should be back before the start of next season..

We will need to sign someone though as I think Welsh will go and that will only leave Starfelt and Kobayashi if there's any hiccups/setbacks. We need 4 at the very least anyway. With the likes of Iwata and Johnston who can fill in..

At least we won't have CL qualifiers in August. When is next season likely to start?

Our for 3 months....I'd still be confident he'd stroll through the game at the * pit in a fortnight, that's how good he is.

If he is back for the start of next season great, but it’s all about getting him ready for next season’s Champions League now in my opinion.

Only that there’s been a lot of interest registered in him. No indication of the player himself pushing to move though. My comment wasn’t meant as a bombshell and I’m hoping that him not being back until August/September could help our case for keeping him.

Watching @Notorious video above though and Ange literally saying “that’s his last game for us” doesn’t fill me with confidence though :39:

Not great for him personally but can’t help but feel positive that he’ll be our first choice centre half for next seasons Champions League barring something mental happening now.

Think it was clear there be interest in him.

But I’ll be willing to bet he would want another shot at the CL.

Personally I cnt see him leaving this summer he's only been a full celtic player for one year there was clearly interest in him last summer so why sign in the first place he could have chose another destination. As has been said before he's been in England he signed perm last summer has to get a knee op now which he's probably doing now to be fit for the start of next season so.he doesn't miss his chance at the CL

Can't see anyone buying him when he's out pretty much all of the summer.

We'll get another year out of him.

He seems to be happy here. He moved around a lot on loans and here he gets some champions league experience again next season. He’s young enough that I would think we have him until at least next year

I got the same feeling when I heard Ange say that. I was hoping that in context he meant this season.

On the BBC interview he did say 'last game for the season', and that it was about allowing CCV time to get right and still have a break before getting ready for next season.

Is he not only a year into a 4 or 5 year deal? I know that doesn't mean he can't be sold, or want off, but I'd be surprised if we want to sell and that he'd have signed that length of deal but look to move so soon into it.

Would be different if he wasn't playing, or not committed, or looking unhappy, but none of those things look likely.

I took from that he’s played his last game of the season for us due to him going away for the op.
