He should be getting more rotated then. We have plenty in midfield to cope without him the odd game.

Give him a rest and use him sparingly for the rest of the season.

Offering nothing just now. Getting overrun when teams attack us and isn’t doing anything of note going forward either. Absolutely miles off it.

Very good tonight. Positive on the ball and a smashing strike.

Best game in ages tonight. Taking the ball and driving forward, something he hasn’t been doing. Need the same midweek now.

Mcgregor looks after the ball so much better than the others , don't think the manager trusts anyone to play that deeper role . Which is a shame as he is/would be the best attacking midfielder we have .

Thought the same. Maybe he's been reading the forums.

Want to see that vs YB.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has explained the key tactical detail that allowed Callum McGregor to have an 'outstanding' performance against Kilmarnock on Saturday.

The midfielder opened the scoring 12 minutes in, driving a powerful strike into the bottom right corner of Kieran O'Hara's goal from range.

McGregor buzzed about the middle of the park like a possessed bee, providing endless energy for his side.

Boss Rodgers explained post-match how the 31-year-old was able to have such a significant impact on proceedings: "I think how they [Kilmarnock] wanted to press us in a 4-4-2 allowed Cal to jump off the back of the marker once it [the ball] went forward," he told Celtic TV.

He did that, and his timing was perfect for his goal.

"He's the beating heart of the team; he's such an important player for us, and he was outstanding today."

Now up to seven goals in all competitions for his side this season, McGregor is just six off matching his most prolific scoring campaign in green and white to date.

Since retiring from international duty last summer, the Celtic skipper has lifted his game to a new level for his club.

Rodgers is understandably pleased with the influence of his captain and will need him to be on his A-game once again when Young Boys visit Glasgow's east end in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday evening

Agree with all the positive comments on his Killi performance.
Thought that we ratface McHunnis would have put a man marker to stick to him. Or was it that Cal * him over by drifting out of the DM role to operate further forward?
Either way, I just dont see Cal as a DM, plays his best football further forward. But I suspect BR just has nobody he trusts to play that DM role.
Aside, their keepers starting position for Cals goal was brutal.

Callum McGregor insists Celtic don’t want to be a “nearly team” as they aim to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League.

A win against Young Boys on Wednesday would all but secure the Hoops a place in the playoff round of the competition.

The Hoops haven’t reached the knockout stage of Europe’s premier competition since the 2012/13 season when they got out of a group containing Barcelona, Benfica and Spartak Moscow.

And the captain is hoping they can take all three points against the Swiss champions and qualify through the league stage with a game to spare.

Speaking on Tuesday, McGregor said: “It’s a brilliant incentive, and the players know that we want to take that responsibility, and it’s down to us to put in a performance that merits that.

It could be a big step for the club; everyone wants to be a part of it. We have done so well so far, but we don’t want to be a nearly team.

“We feel like we have a team here who should be getting success, so it’s now down to the players to prove that.”

Young Boys have yet to register a single point this Champions League campaign, but McGregor knows they will still be a tough nut to crack and says Celtic are taking nothing for granted as they bring their A-game.

He said: “At this level, every team is a good team, even though they haven’t done so well. We have been on the receiving end of that where we have played well but haven’t got the rewards to go with it.

“The points never really tell the full story, we know they are a good side with good physicality, good technically and have some good players in there as well.

“When you come to this level, you always expect them to have a period in the game when they will be on top as well, and it will be up to us to turn it back in our favour.

But we also know we are a good team as well, and we have proved that in some of the games so far, so we just have to bring it all together tomorrow and hopefully, we will have a good night
