    Midfield offered no protection whatsoever.

    Common theme.

It's fine beating the press of * St Johnstone. Entirely different level tonight.

You love a Celtic defeat pal eh? Most active you ever are. More negative posts during a defeat against Dortmund than positive during the previous 17 victories combined :56:

completely honestly I find Mcgregor struggles at this level of opposition and also at international level with Scotland. Brown was mostly the same, understandable as this isn't what he's used to on a regular basis. Ergo, he's nowhere near this level.

Captain * poor tonight. Worse still, presiding over a team that in the second half have just given up completely. Should be running around the pitch slapping them. Enough of this 'he leads by example', * knock some heads together.

He's a very good Scottish Premier League player. That has always been his level. Nothing new here to see

The role he plays is a clear issue away from home in Europe he offers zero protection to the backline in these games yet we keep persisting with it. We get away with it domestically as we have all of the ball but we need a big * for the middle of the park. Our midfield have been absolutely bullied all night

I thought it was a gutless performance riddled with mistakes.

A man who should be leading by example, and who should have been guiding our younger players and running, organising that midfield. Couldn't have organised a * up in a brewery tonight he was that bad.

Sadly I have to agree and we have seen this with McGregor in Europe too many times.

I think any of us with half a * brain have been SCREAMING out for a CDM with pace and physicality for * years. McGregor just looks totally lost when the other team have strength, pace and fast pressing. He's been making mistakes in the SPL too, but they just rarely get punished. All of the players tonight making mistakes were almost instantly punished - that is CL football.

One of his worst performances of his career. Couldn't pass or tackle and as usual the midfield was bypassed.

If he's our best and playing like that then what hope have you got.

He was very poor tonight. Yet still the best of the 3 starting midfielders, which says alot about where it went wrong tonight.

If you look across almost all of his worst games for us there almost all away in Europe. I find it hard to even have a go it's so predictable yet for some unknown reason we never look to get a physical presence in there

I thought McGregor was poor tonight but far from the worst. He was the only man in midfield until Hatate came on. He was really unlucky with the deflection off him for the goal (or was it the penalty? it's all a blur) but don't think that's something we can blame him for.

He isn't a defensive midfielder, we know that - he needs someone to help him win the ball and let Cal recycle and build play.

Fair point to make that. Engels won’t receive a tenth of the flak but he was every bit as bad if not worse and Bernardo was simply woeful.

Thats why i find it bizarre that we pursued Souza who was the exact profile we needed only to then just not bother.

Probably because Engels isn't our captain and hasn't been part of the terminal underachievement in Europe for a significant amount of time.

The excuses that are made for McGregor... ffs.

That’s because they are both much younger and less experienced. You naturally expect more from your captain who has played over 500 games for the club than two young guys in their early 20’s.

Engels went hiding for me. He and Bernardo shat it.

Hatate has to start in Bergamo.

It's not excuses, it's the truth. McGregor is what he is, we all know it - he's a good player, but not able to play as a DM in Europe against top sides and that's been abundantly clear for about 4 seasons now. He is good at finding space, recycling the ball and keeping things ticking - he is not a ball winner and isn't great positionally, these were all clear today.

It's not his fault he's played there and asked to do things he clearly can't. It's the managers who keep playing him there.

He has to be switched with Engels for Atalanta..

It might no work but I know what definitely doesn't work against top teams away in Europe, McGregor in the 6..
