Earned every last day in that 5 year deal. Anyone questioning the length of the deal needs to seriously give their head a wobble.

Man’s an absolute machine anyway and will probably still be running our midfield at 35.

I would doubt that in all honesty. Never bought into the argument that bringing in a player on higher wages then affects the rest of the team wage wise either. It’s the same in every job. Those who are more skilled at their trade earn more money. Obviously there is exceptions to this rule, but in general it is the case.

Realistically, if a player of Callum’s quality came through our doors from overseas we would struggle to keep him for a couple seasons.

He has stayed here because of who he is, and what this club means to him. Not for riches or fame. The least we can do is give players of quality who are committed to us a big contract. Anyone worried about the money is a fruit loop. He deserves every penny he will receive for the times he has given us as player and Captain.

Well done Cal, I hope he sees it right thru and in good health.

Delighted with this hopefully he got a little bump up in his wages aswell to repay him even though his already most likely our highest player. He deserves it

The best bit of business the club will do this summer.

What a player and what a man. An all time Celtic great before he sticks another 5 years worth of trophies and memories on top of that.

He has the footballing brain that will allow him to play easily until he's 35 and beyond.

    Brilliant news!!

He'll finish his career here, will likely go onto become the player with most medals in our history and will be spoke about for years to come along side some of the greatest ever players to wear the hoops.

It has been and will continue to be an absolute pleasure watching him play football.

Hopefully they will be building a pathway into coaching for him.

For squad players, yes... For Captain? You need to be asking why another player is worth more than them and not captain themselves, and what that does for team morale and potential to undermine their position. Personally have no issue with Captain always matching the highest wage, given they do so much more on/off the pitch than most, and it's a 24hr job for them

It’s not always the most talented player that is the captain though. I think at this stage, I’d say McGregor merits being on the highest wage right enough, because he is a very talented player. If we bring in someone for upwards of £10m though, I think they will be on a greater wage than McGregor. All guesswork of course because I don’t know exactly what McGregor, or any of our players are on for that matter. We certainly shouldn’t have a structure in place that forbids us bringing in a player because he will be on more than our captain though.

There's an argument to say that CalMac is one of the fittest and most resilient players in the game. There was at least one season that he played more minutes than any other player in world football.

He might still be playing in his late 30s.

Exactly. Bertie Peacock did the fetch and carry that allowed Charlie Tully to shine. As iconic as Cesar was, noone would say he had more natural ability than wee Jinky. Roy Aitken was undoubtedly brave and inspirational, but would anyone say that the Bear was a more skilled player than Paul McStay? Tom Boyd and Paul Lambert were both good players, but neither were on the same level as Lubo or Henrik, and so it goes.

It takes different qualities to be a good captain, rather than simply being the most talented. It's far more important to be ever dependable and reliable, to set the standard and can lift the team when things need be, regardless of the opposition - the very qualities that are what CalMac is known for.

It's not the case, those doing the same job will earn roughly the same or have pay brackets in many jobs. If I found out someone else came in on 50 to 100% more than me while I was already there proving I could do it id be furious.
