ANGE POSTECOGLOU has revealed that Callum McGregor's injury is "fairly significant" and warns it won't be a "short-term" spell for him on the sidelines.

The captain was forced off in the second half of their Champions League match with RB Leipzig on Wednesday.

and he will see a specialist today to discover how serious the injury is.

He would have missed Celtic's game at St Johnstone on Saturday through suspension, but the Hoops now wait to see just how long the captain will be out for.

Speaking about the extent of the McGregor's knock, Postecoglou told Sky Sports: "He's off to see a specialist this morning, for him to come off (against RB Leipzig) it's fairly significant.

"Timeline wise we'll find out today. It's obviously not short-term but we hope it's not too long-term.

He's a fantastic player and beyond that, it's his influence on and off the field as a leader.

"There's not one person that can replace that, it will be a case of the other guys stepping up and filling the breach.

"We missed him for a few games last year and it's just stuff we have got to cope with.

"Obviously he is disappointed because he's such a big part of how we play our football and what we've created here so I know he'll be working hard, whatever the timeline to get back."

Some folk just don't get football. If a player, regardless of their position, isn't going on mazy runs, making incisive forward passing and getting a goal and 3 assists per game then they had a shiter, according to these people

Hopefully not out long and we can weather any absence until he’s back… but the whole team need to up their game…

We aren't even into the high attrition winter period and have an injury list starting to look like it’s a bad February…

I wasn’t looking forward to the long break for the ‘No Morals Cup’ … but might be glad of it now if we can keep it together until then…

… then hope that a few games in Australia sees everyone back and in form without more injuries being picked up.

    Real bad news that..

Bit of a game changer league wise. Need to grind it out til the world cup starts and hopefully he's back after..

7 league game's, including the likes of Tynecastle and Livi away..

Was he banned for tomorrow anyway? Not a big difference if out for weeks… but Ange would have planned for it.

Nir and especially Tam really stepped up for us in December. Need others to do the same now they are gone.

Massive chance for the likes of Abildgaard and Ideguchi to show their worth.

We have depth in midfield, none are as good as McGregor but we've got Hatate, O'Riley, Mooy, Abildgaard, Ideguchi and Turnbull.

*! Is going to be a big miss. He has barely missed a game since Ange took over, even when his cheekbone was cracked he only missed like 1 game or something ridiculous. 'Not a short term' *... It does provide opportunity for someoen else to step up, but it is a massive loss 100%

im sure someone said ideguchi is injured, im sure mooy is injured and the managers was saying abildgaard was still way behind with fitness

hatate and oriley are first team picks that leaves turnbull and abildgaard mcarthy who are all quite slow paced

massive blow mcgregor is possibly our best player overall but well see how ange and us adapt to it

on paper our squad looks strong but the reserves are no where near as good as our 1st team

guess our style is going to change

One of the main differences is that you don't have Forum-like anonymity on FB - when you post, the whole world knows who you are.

My core Celtic values remain unchanged whether Im posting on FB or here, but I use very different language when articulating them between platforms. And TBH, I rarely post much on FB about anything - far less fitba (as most of my FB friends aren't interested in the game).
