I think a leader is professional in the way they conduct themselves, the way they train and look after themselves and is respected.

i think the captain is this, but is also an extension of the manager on the pitch and ensures that the standards dont drop on and off the pitch, and who can lift the team when things are not going well.

It doesnt have to be the best technical player in the team. i think its usually someone of strong character. Id recommend you look on youtube to what players like carragher and murphy have said about Jordan Henderson.

I think that some players are just meant to be captains just by their very nature. I dont think anyone has ever said Mcgregor is a future celtic captain.
If you take a player like Tierney and place him in whichever squad, he is a still a captain every day of the week.
I dont feel the same way at all about Mcgregor. I just think its come his way more because (to use a term used by an earlier poster) he is the outstanding candidate within this group of players, rather than he is an outstanding candidate to be Celtic captain.

Funny enough, Marcus Fraser going through the ranks was the one everybody earmarked as future captain. Like many just hit the wall at 16/17 and stayed at that level.

 

MOTM? Must've missed something, really want a lot more from him.

 

The way you describe a leader there, is just a good professional. A follower can also have those traits. From what you’re saying though, it comes across like you think the captain is someone who’ll that extra mile, which is fair enough.

People have called McGregor a future Celtic captain in the past and he’s definitely a strong character. Very few players make the breakthrough at Celtic, yet he’s had the dedication and determination to become one of our best players, a great indicator of a strong character because we all know talent alone isn’t enough. This is along with possessing other good leadership qualities imo. Go back to when he was emerging as a first team regular and you’ll see descriptions of him such as “brave” or “never hides”.

There were plenty of folk sceptical of Broony being made captain when he got it, so hopefully those of us with reservations can be won round in time.

 

Played well but much more to come. Think he will grow massively with that armband.

 

Thought he was quite poor tonight if im being honest, motm a token gesture surely.

 

Thought he played well tonight and was always looking for the ball. Our midfield is definitely a lot more fluid now.

 

Was decent but expected more. Doesn't mean he played bad it just means I've higher expectations for him

 

He had a decent game, a lot better than last season already but Soro and Christie were much better.
