So you're rewarding players from that previous squad that took no part in the actual games and were just that 'squad members'!! These same players have either hardly played or done * all since but they they get rewarded because they were just there......at the expense of current in-form players! Madness that Mcgregor is not even in the squad!!

 

We'll probably nick a 3 each against Malta..

 

I thought you had fallen onto the keyboard with the dross written in the first post but now you're just embarrassing yourself defending it.

Form fluctuates, injuries happen, new and better players come through the system... This is called progress and it's the national coach's job to be on top of what we have in all positions. Strachan is just being stubborn as this is the 3rd or 4th press conference in a row he's been asked about MacGregor. Your argument doesn't stack up, you're basically saying a player is not entitled to join any club or national team squad and contribute unless he has been there from start of current season or campaign... utter guff in other words.

Might I add that if MacGregor was playing for any other team, I would still be of the same opinion.

 

It's called loyalty to lads he works with in the squad who have contributed to a campaign in which we can still qualify. It would appear loyalty is a characteristic which is thin on these boards. We have different principles. You blow with the wind and are swayed by the flavour of the month. I have loyalty and respect for colleagues and their contributions. The lads took 4 points from two massive games against slovenia and england - that showed guts. I say "go again take another 6". you say "* you lads who contributed last time youre missing out this time in favour of this lad who has no caps and has never been in the squad because he scored against kimarnock". its just a different approach/life principles.

 

I wonder if Strachan holds McGregor's drink driving against him.

Exactly this!! He's rewarding guys for just being in previous squads who took no part other than being there at the expense of guys like Mcgregor, and not just exclusively him, for a squad place.

 

Probably, but he doesn't mind picking someone religiously who get's pished and film's themselves spitting on cab drivers..

 

Would be some excuse right enough, considering how much he loves Barry Bannan.
