I've never really caught on to him, outside of his first few months under Ronny, but * has he been great the last couple months. For me, he's always looked a good all-around midfielder, but never one that really stood out or made me get the sentiment that so many on this site have. But recently he's been better than the Armstrong of last season IMO. How silky and effective was he today? His touches are sublime, he's seeing the park, making excellent passes and runs, tracks back, and is good for a goal (or three). Undroppable at the moment.

Leaving the game the day I seen a group of 3 guys singing a song about him, was decent as well but i've totally forgot what it was now or the tune of it. Was something like Scotland's best midfielder and then he never gives the ball away but it was a recognisable song.

To be honest I thought he had a bad first half but improved a lot in the second

A lot of people said we'd need to sign another creative midfielder to compete with Rogic, but on McGregor's performances last season, pre-season and today I don't think we do.

I have to admit I've been harsh on him in the past, but I think that's down to him not being played in this role/system. So many of his appearances have been off the bench or covering for injuries playing wide or deeper midfiled, which doesn't really suit his style.

I was surprised to see him start ahead of Rogic today tbh, he is a notch above in pure skill, creativity and goal threat imo, but Callum is much more mobile so it's a bit of a trade-off depending what you prefer, it gives a bit of a different dynamic in the team and they'll both be suited better in different games.

And they're both only 24 with room to develop, good times.

By no means a flashy player that will make the headlines but maybe our most dynamic player in terms of moving the ball in the middle and final third. His passing, movement off the ball, and the quickness in his turns are right up there at the top of our squad. I'll admit that I used to slag the guy and didn't think he really had a place in our long term plans, but I'm happy to admit I was wrong. He offers something really unique (like Rogic) and will be very important to our success this year.

I love that, but I reckon a couple of his team-mates might have something to say about that.

Since he put the drink/drive incident behind him, lost a bit of weight and got some game time in his best position, he's flourished. He seems to get better every time he plays and he really suits the style of football we're playing.

What I would say, though, is that he isn't suited to the '10' role he had today. He's technically sound, has clever movement and is really unselfish - but he's not one who's going to slice open a defence like Rogic or make surging runs in behind like Armstrong does. I like him when he plays as the link between Brown and whoever is playing slightly further up.

Finally people are starting to see what a cracking player we have. Liked him better than Armstrong for a while. He will pick up Armstrong's 17 goals this season easy.

Fair play. I've been quite critical of him in the past but he's proving me wrong, hopefully he continues doing so.

Think he comes to life around the box with quick passes and one twos always looking to break into the box to score

Agree with all of what you've said. Unfortunately "oh eh oh, he's Callum McGregor, oh eh oh, our third best Scottish midfielder, oh eh oh, wth reasonable passing accuracy" doesn't quite have the same ring to it. I'm not convinced "oh ey oh, he's Callum McGregor, oh eh oh, our criminal midfielder, oh eh oh, loves to drink and drive away" is really a great song for us to sing either :fear:

I'll admit I'm not his biggest fan and have always thought of him as a squad player.

He's had a great start to the season so far. Hard to drop him.

McGregor is a fantastic wee player. Great control, links up well, and is a constant goal threat. Gold dust from a midfield player.

Video of his movement off the ball and positioning from yesterday.

Such a smart player. Easily the best first touch in the country for me as well.
