ahh i always liked him as a platyer but have said before i go with whatever the manager thinks . I have to admit he is THE classic example of a scapegoat player , easy target i mean ive mentioned several times mcgeady and how he is a player who seems beyond reproach to some fans as he is a very talented player BUT very frustrating and i agree to an extenx with mark lawrenson who said no end product because a lot of the times its true

Caldwell is still our best CB over the last couple of years. That may not be saying much but you are still weakened if you get rid of your best even if you think its best of a bad bunch. Honestly, those who sya O'Dea is better need their heads examined. Two managers think he is 4th or 5th choice CB and when on form its like comparing a man to a boy if you compare the experience of Caldwell with O'D.

One million is a bad deal. We could probably have got 4 or 5 times that in the summer. Can 1 million bring you in a replacement who has captained club and country and has lots of European experience? Nah. You are looking at 4 or 5 times that.

Can we actually get better within the price range and wage structure that Mowbray has mainly working with. It has proven impossible for our scouts to succeed in bringing in a great CB for several years. WGS explicetly said in an interview last year that it was almost impossible to get in better than what we have at CB given the market and the way even small English clubs can offer better wages. That wont change because the manager has. The same scouts and contraints are still there.

I do not think we can do much better than an on-form Caldwell.

At this point what I think of him as a player has little to do with it. He's not terrible, but he's far from irreplaceable. The larger issue is that he's worth something but he's likely to walk for nothing -- and given the amount of crap in the press coming from him and the FO I'd prefer to see it dealt with in January.

    Dempseys got it covered below.

I do agree Gunt with your post ,i believe he is the best we have but when the fans turn on you it goes sour ,he is worth a lot more than the 1 million quoted and by all accounts he looks like leaving ,i am surprised that a team are paying that money for him when they can get him for nothing 5 months later ,but maybe they need him asap and someone at the team he is going to knows he can play and also knows that when the transfer is done he will possibly return to form, He has been unsettled at Celtic probably by the contract scenario going on in the background ,but if someone at Celtic met Caldwell half way on his demands i firmly believe his form would return .

The guy has played well in 1 season out of 3. That's not good enough in anyone's language.

He is also a near certainty to sell a goal, score an own goal or make a total * of something as soon as he comes up against any decent standard of opposition. He's * up in big matches time after time after time. I'm fed up watching him and then being left with my head in my hands when the inevitable happens.

If he does leave then all I have to say is..........

Bye bye Gary. Thanks for the one good season. But I'll remember you more than anything as a calamity waiting to happen. A calamity that all too often DID happen. :bbpd:

caldwells more than 1 million ffs!

Hes not having the best of seasons and has * up alot , but 1m for him like? He was our best defender last season. Look at rio ferdinand at united.. hes ballsed up alot this season and nearly cost united games, but hes a quality defender when hes on form.

If were gona sell him .. up the stakes a bit i reckon.

Yes, Aston Villa took the pre-contract route with Shaun Maloney rather than cough up £1M in the January transfer window did'nt they......

Gary Caldwell is our best centre back, end of. He's just had a shakey start. I bet he saves us agaisnt Motherwell and yous are all bumming him again. Hes way technically superior than Loovens and McManus put together and he organises the defense just as well as McManus and better than Loovens.

His brain is a rolled up mis-shapen ball of wet toilet paper.

He is the most intellectually challenged player in the SPL since Gaza.

He looks like a caveman, his skull is 5 inches thick - that's the reason his brain is the size of a tennis ball.

The guy really is as thick as *, he makes the same mistakes time and again - he speaks of learning from those very same mistakes, only to go out in the next game to make them again.

He brings up private negotiations with the club the day before an important European game, he thinks he's Franz * Beckenbaur - when he's actually no better than Lee Wilkie or Russell Anderson.

He's a total spacecadet & I really can't stand him, my Hibbie mates all think the same.

I really liked it when he scored against France though, it's probably the only good thing he's done in his career, but now we have to suffer his delusions because of it.

    Utter nonsense.

He brings his personal contractual demands into the public arena before a massive game, when we are already playing badly.

He puts out that he thinks he's worth more in a week, than most of us are paid in a year - at a time when many people are fearing for their futures.

    He's a *, a stupid *.

There's no way he deserves any backing whatsoever from the fans, he doesn't give a flying * about anything to do with the fans.

He'll drop a massive * against Motherwell - any money.

I'm off this subject from now.

I don't want to see this diddy Caldwell drop any more clangers for the club, especially not tomorrow when we need to stay top of the league.

I would rather see ZZ, Marrr or Thomson play tomorrow. Keep this rocket
Caldwell out of the team altogether Mogga or you will regret it.

You must have seen enough to know the guy has a super inflated ego of himself that he can't back up on the park. Caldwell lives in a Walter Mitty fucken world populated by one - himself.
