I think Celtbot suggested Everything is Illuminated. Just saw that, it's a great flick.

If you like some movies that are a tad slower, try Schultze Gets the Blues and a documentary called Thrilla in Manilla. The first is a story about a retired Bavarian who travels to Louisiana to learn about Zydeco music. Very funny. The second is a documentary about the famous third Ali v. Frasier fight that shows why the American media is screwed up for turning Ali into a hero and letting Frasier fade into the background of our collective consciousness. Both movies I really enjoyed. I'd also suggest anything by Wes Anderson (Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, The Darjeeling Limited) as he is a genius of a director. His films grow on you and their cumulative effect is a recognition of his brilliance.
