Crimson Rivers is a french murder mystery starring Jean Reno and Vincent Cassel....that should be more than enough info to make anyone want to see it. Great movie and the follow up is also pretty good.

Marty's call about "La Haine" (The Hate) is spot on, it's a fantastic movie.

I've got to give a special mention to the "Infernal Affairs" trilogy. You won't see 3 finer movies that came out of Hong Kong and "The Departed" is the Hollywood remake of Infernal Affairs pt 1.

Didn't see that, I'd recommend it as well. It's kind of known as the French City of *. There's a movie called City of Men that's a lot like City of *, so people should check that out as well. It's maybe not as good, but if you forget City of * it's one of the best movies you'll see in a while.

You know what i love about this movie?

It's one of the few sub-titled movies (ever) that it hasn't mattered if i read the subs or not,the way it's filmed and acted out i find myself lost in it not realising i ain't even reading the subs.

Also i'm going to lovefilm to rent the Jean Reno one, never seen it before but Reno is one of my all time fav actors. :icon_mrgreen:

The Escapist with Brian * is really good, might be well known though.

If subtitled movies are your thing, Luc Besson is my all time favorite director, Nikita & The Big Blue are obviously classics - Leon has been mentioned, Subway with Christopher Lambert & the Taxi series, as well as the transporter series - are good fun, Ronin too is a good un.

He wrote the Jet Li movie Unleashed (Danny the Dog) which was filmed in Glasgow & has Morgan Freeman & Bob Hoskins in it (Besson wrote that role for Billy Connelly, but it fell through).

Sorry, but I like Luc Besson...lool

I'll check out those others you mentioned, Oldboy was a cracking film picked it up in HMV then sat it on the shelf in my living room and forgot about it for months picked it up one day and seriously think it's one of the best films i've ever seen.

Heard of Eraserhead would love to see it, like Lynch's other work.
