I thought there'd have been more talk of the 4-2-3-1 since many people were saying thats how we should play against the huns then the very next game we come out and do it.

I checked Hatate's touches today to see if you could notice it compared to usual even on that and it is blatant.

Compared to the last 4 home League games....

He usually hardly touches the ball in the central area in our own half cause we play that triangle style with McGregor in there alone and Hatate and Engels higher around the halfway line and wider.

Where as today everytime we had the ball at the keeper or back 4, he ran in and made it a 2 with McGregor which then led to him and McGregor picking up the ball and even passing it to each other as whoever got on the ball out the two the other went forward but still central.

Wasn't really a normal 4-2-3-1 though as Engels just played his normal role, I only noticed Engels going more central like a a couple of times but didn't seem to be anything tactical like when they went to a 2 he went more in the middle was just random.

You even notice today compared to usual that Hatate touched the ball much less higher up the park, since sometimes cause the way we played McGregor ended up ahead of him. I can't be arsed couting but he's probably touched the ball like 60/40 in our own half when he usually probably averages 60/40 in the opposition half.

Based on how they play, would it not make more sense for Engels to be the one dropping in next to McGregor? Seems to me he played farther back for his old team and was pretty good at starting quick counters from turnovers.

Celtic are set to sit down for showdown talks with Brendan Rodgers over his future in the off-season, sources have told Football Insider.

The 52-year-old is under contract at Parkhead until June 2026 after returning two years ago.

Rodgers is thriving in his second spell at Celtic and reached the knockout phase of the Champions League earlier this season – where they were defeated by Bayern Munich.

The former Liverpool and Leicester boss insisted last month there had been no conversation about a new deal with the Glasgow giants

He is expected to hold talks about the future with Celtic chiefs in the summer – with a long-term deal up for grabs if discussions proceed smoothly.

Rodgers is on course to win a domestic treble with the Hoops this term – having won two trebles in his first spell at the club.

He left mid-way through the 2018-19 campaign and won the FA Cup with Leicester in 2021 before returning in 2023 following Ange Postecoglou’s exit.

Rodgers "Ye gonna back me or no this summer?

Celtic "eh, so, eh, about, eh, that, hmm, eh...."

    Rodgers "thought so"

I don't see him signing a new deal unless we actively show we are backing him and pushing forward with him.
We can't have last summer being the only window we actually support the manager than do our usual and assume he has the tools he needs and leave him there to perform miracles with a squad that is screaming for help.

Back him in the Summer and give him a new 3yr deal imo. Lets see where he can take us.

He'll be backed by the club, of course he will. Bigger question is how he evolves his system and tactics imo. 3 years is about right for any manager before things go stale, which we're starting to see signs of.

If he's willing to change things up tactically and move us forward, I'd be all for a new deal for him. Don't think we should automatically be throwing money at him though.

We'd be daft not to give him a new deal.

He needs to switch up his tactics against the huns. so the game at Ibrox is a lot more important even if it means * all for the league, but outside that it's been a excellent season over-all. On course for a treble with a pretty decent European campaign. The football during the first half of this season was some of the best I've seen from a Celtic team, it's not quite been as good December onwards but we've still played some good stuff.

Add Tierney to the team in the summer and I think our football will continue to improve, we still need a bit of work done to the team but we're definitely getting there.

Absolutely, the addition of KT is gonna be huge imo, add to that the younger players who will be a year more experienced and match wise like Engels and Bernardo. Two or three real quality additions could round off this squad nicely.

Rodgers is the safest pair of hands we can get.

Can we get someone who plays more attacking or free flowing football? Sure, but there’s no guarantee of success.

Rodgers for another 3 years would be a no-brainer, and hopefully would allow him to deliver us more progression in Europe along with more domestic titles.

I think it’ll likely be another year extension though, can’t see him committing for such a long period of time when he still will have aspirations elsewhere.

I'm sure the board will be desperate to keep him. Really up to him if he feels like he has hit a ceiling or if he can see scope to continue to improve the squad. A lot will depend on comings and goings in the summer I expect. And if the Yanks do invest heavily in rangers a bit of genuine competition might be a bit of an appeal to Rodgers.

He's the best manager we can realistically get.

Folk will realise that (again) when he does eventually go.

I think there's a lot of us still angry with both him and the team following that defeat against the huns - especially as it was against a failed Alloa and Clyde manager and a team 13 points behind us. We were also hoping to get revenge on that shocking defeat at ipox which didn't help. I still reckon the vast majority of fans have forgiven him for his leaving and he will most likely win us a treble but he cannot keep being 2nd best to a failed manager and a very average hun team.

If winning a double, then a treble, as well as progressing in the champions league and being a minute from extra time against Bayern Munich doesn't convince you then nothing will. But after two tops managers in Ange and Rodgers, I think its a massive assumption to make that a new manager will continue to win everything as standard.

In all his previous clubs he does start to go stale around the 3 year mark. Hopefully with the slight change of tactics against Hearts he's willing to switch it up now. He's made us much harder to beat in Europe bar Dortmund which was terrible night but were actually competing now. Think a new deal would be brilliant but we do need to see a change against the huns.

I dont agree with that sentiment. As popular as it is.

We had the current Newcastle manager in the door, only "circumstances" scuppered the move. I wouldn't regard Rodgers as superior to Howe, and I dont think Newcastle fans would either.

If i remember right we "could" have approached Chelsea's current manager too.

Rodgers is the best manager "the board will back" is more apt.
Desmond and Lawwell trust him, and are willing to back him, to a better degree than others.

Any new manager usually has the financial training wheels on if considered "unproven", and if in the case a manager of similar stature to Rodgers were to be interested, they'd be unwilling to pay for him, or the transfer budget he would require, in most cases at least.

Im not being arsey, but this "he's the best we can do" if very short sighted imo.
