Brendan Rodgers has joked Celtic "got the easier one" as he reacted to the Champions League knockout play-off round draw.

The Parkhead side will face Bayern Munich in the next round after qualifying from the league phase of the tournament.

Celtic could have faced Real Madrid but were drawn against the Bundesliga giants instead with Manchester City dealt a trip to the Bernabeu.

Delivering a one-liner when asked about the draw, Rodgers said: "Yeah, got the easier one, didn't we? Listen, it's brilliant.

"We've earned to get to the pay-off stage, the players have been outstanding over the eight games and that qualifies us to play one of these top teams.

We look forward to that when it comes."

The Celtic boss added: "I think that has been the beauty of the competition. There are pros and cons to that but as I see it, it was so dynamic.

"People will say 'if you had one point more or less you could have done this...' but it was so fluid and dynamic right to the very end.

"But the ultimate objective was to qualify and then wherever that is you are still going to play a really good team.

"We are really excited by that opportunity and we will give everything we can over the course of the two legs

Board have learned * from last time. Will end up losing BR again.

Rodgers has been very clear we have known for MONTHS about Kyogo situation and it 2 days before the window closes he's had to pick up the phone to an old pal.

    * as * and with this attitude we can't push ahead as a club to where qualification is for later stages is a norm and not once every 10 years or so.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers remains hopeful that the club will bring in a new striker before the transfer window closes on Monday night - but admitted an arrival is likely to be on loan.

Celtic are still hunting for a No 9 after selling Kyogo Furuhashi to Rennes earlier this week and in recent days have been linked with Sevilla’s Kelechi Iheanacho, Slovan Bratislava’s David Strelec and Mathias Kvistgaarden of Brondby. And while Rodgers was unable to give a concrete answer on what would happen in the next 24 hours or so, he reiterated his desire for a new hitman to supplement his options for the rest of the

We play so many games,” said Rodgers after Celtic’s 3-1 win over Motherwell. “And how we want to play takes a lot of work, a lot of intense work. My feeling was always once Kyogo was gone, was to have someone else to come in. So that's the plan. And hopefully that can be the case, and we execute that by tomorrow night

I don't know exactly know where it's at at this moment, but I'd be hopeful that we can do that. The club knows my feelings, they know why I came back. I'm here to enjoy my time at Celtic, not to fall out with myself and do all the things that sometimes I maybe didn't do the first time.

But the demand is still there to improve the squad. We have to. We have to make sure that there's constant improvement. That's been clear. I don't need to fall out with anyone over it. Everyone knows what it is we want to do at the club and that's us all. I'm hopeful that we can do that.

“I don't expect it [Monday] to be hectic, but I would hope that we could come out of this window stronger. And that's always been the plan.”

When asked if a deal for new striker would likely be a loan, Rodgers added: “I would think so. I would think so. I think that to get the one that we would want for that longer term, if it's not there, then I don't want to just bring in anyone just for the sake of it. I'll always look from within

There's no point in bringing in someone if they're not the right fit. So it might be more down that route, but we'll wait and see what tomorrow evening brings.”

Rodgers also gave an update on Daniel Cummings’ situation, with the 18-year-old striker out of contract at the end of the season. He was not in the squad for the Motherwell win and has been linked with teams in England

He was with the second team yesterday and he was ill in the warm-up, so he didn't play,” explained Rodgers. “I believe there's interest from another club for him, but that's been the case with a lot of our young players

You get to a certain age where they have their contract running out, and then they have a decision to make. Do they stay and follow the example of a Callum McGregor, for example, trust the club, be patient and knowing that you might not be right ready at 17, 18, but you have to be a special talent to be.

“Can you just be patient and wait a little bit longer? Or do you do what a lot of players have done and take the opportunity at 18 to look elsewhere? So I think that's the situation that young Daniel is with his agents. We will just wait and see what happens

I dont mind a loan if there's an option so we don't end up in an idah situation and over pay.

I dont think we overpaid for Idah. The market has changed drastivally in the last two years. We will continually spend 10m+ from now on. And Idah is a quality player.

    Agree with you're point though.

Great quotes from him. Called them out big time without throwing his toys out the pram. Whether or not it makes a difference, well...

I'm fine if its a LTB or an 18 month loan.

A 6 month loan with no option would be disappointing.

6 month loan if we get our main target in the summer would be ok as long as this is the case was him also not putting on Kenny sending a message out to the board that he needs another striker

Scales on at LB as well for the same reason. Didn't see any injury to GT.

Wouldn't read too much into that. Could be just testing these last few games as to how Scales fares at LB.
I seem to remember Scales did fine at LB for Aberdeen. Scored a screamer against the Huns from LB too.

It was to add height I would think. Idah had went off and it was 2-1 at the time. A set piece looked Motherwell’s only hope, so Scales for Taylor made sense.

Feel sorry for this poor *

Of course he's handsomely paid but he's been badly let down by the board again.

He's not gonna hang around with the * bullshit going on around him.

In the summer with a week to go he called out the board in the media and this window he's said on numerous occasions he wants to leave the window stronger and that's not happening. Even if we get some last minute loans in we've * it.

If he has any ambition of a top job down south again he can't be hanging around here with his hands tied.

If nothing happens next few hours them he will.not be here past next season. Always felt he would go anyway but had a slight glimmer of hope he'd sign a new deal.

It's pretty evident why he left the first time. And he certainly doesn't owe the board anything this time around.
