St John’s CC announce plans for Maltina Park, Carnlough
    , ,

St John’s Camogie Club and Carnlough Swifts FC are thrilled to officially announce the naming of our ground as Maltina Park, a heartfelt tribute to the parents of Brendan Rodgers, Malachy and Christina, and a name that will forever honour their legacy. This moment marks a significant milestone for our community, and we are deeply proud to share it with all of you.

The decision to name the ground Maltina Park reflects Brendan’s remarkable generosity, his unwavering support for our community, and his deep personal connection to the name Maltina. It represents the values of family, dedication, and resilience that his parents instilled in him—qualities that Brendan carries forward in his life and work.

For us, it is an immense honour to celebrate Brendan’s legacy in this way. His vision for Maltina Park is not simply about a name; it’s about creating a place that inspires young athletes, regardless of their sport, to dream big and strive for excellence. Brendan’s commitment to supporting sports stars of all disciplines serves as a powerful reminder that talent, dedication, and passion have no boundaries.

Through this incredible gesture, Brendan has given us a legacy of hope and opportunity. Maltina Park will now stand as a beacon for aspiring sports stars, a place where dreams begin, and a tribute to the enduring values of community and generosity.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Brendan Rodgers for this extraordinary gift and for his unwavering belief in the potential of our clubs and community. Together, we look forward to making Maltina Park a hub of inspiration, hard work, and celebration for generations to come.

St John’s Camogie Club and Carnlough Swifts FC would like to thank our respective Committees and also the Stoneyhill Committee for getting us to this point in the redevelopment. We want to also thank Ryan Dougan from Vision Design Architecture and the incredibly talented Enda McSorley who has worked tirelessly on the drawings. Many more people to thank who have been involved so far but we will do that later as different phases near completion, 2025 is going to be an amazing year, we hope you like the drawings.

Welcome to Maltina Park. A legacy, a landmark, and a home for all
Very generous of Brendan remembering where in comes from

Brendan Rodgers believes 2024 will go down as "one of the exceptional years in the history of Celtic".

The reigning Scottish Premiership champions have thrashed both St Johnstone and Motherwell 4-0 this week and sit 14 points ahead of second-place Rangers in the league standings.

Celtic have scored an incredible 52 goals from their opening 18 top-flight fixtures, conceding just four times, and remain unbeaten across domestic competitions this season.

That statistic alone is enough to get Rodgers and the Celtic supporters excited, but their busy festive period was made even better with Rangers only managing to draw against Motherwell on Sunday.

Rodgers knows that Celtic are in a very strong position and noted his players desire to maintain their high standards from start to finish as a key factor.

You have to always give credit to the other team, there is two teams in a game, but I thought from minute one we were outstanding," the Celtic manager told BBC Scotland following the home triumph over struggling St Johnstone.

"From the first to the 94th minute I was so pleased with the level, purely from a mentality perspective. We kept going right to the very end.

"That's the real joy I have, our approach is very systematic, the players know what the demands are and they go in and give everything to produce the performance

We're not even at the half way point in the league but what I can say is that when you're in this position, I can only give a huge testament to the players because of the work, the mindset, they know they're in a safe place because they know they can lose games. We ask the players to take risks and if they do we know we can lose games in the right way.

"When you look at all the numbers and stats, this will be one of the exceptional years in the history of Celtic.

"It's great for the supporters, they can see how hard the team is working."

This year has the potential to go down as one of the best in our recent history. Our form has been frankly ridiculous, and there's no reason why - touch wood - we couldn't win a treble, be invincible domestically, and progress to at least the last 32 in the CL.

I've been his biggest critic at times over the last year and a bit but what a * job he is doing.

TBH, he already made up last season for how he left the first time. Time has proven last January's window to be better than we thought at the time; but that first summer window somehow looks even worse now than it did last year and I think the majority of Celtic managers I've seen don't win the league with that team last year, let alone a double. So there's that.

So he started the season back on zero and everything he's done this season goes on the credit side of the ledger and what a lot of positives there have been! Incredible start to the season, the draw away at Atalanta, the win against Leipzig, League Cup in the bag, a 14-point lead to end the year and, barring a few games after the last international break, some of the best football I've seen us play.

It actually now comes down to seeing us over the line in the league starting on Thursday, winning a home tie against the bottom place team in the CL league phase (not a given due to our past Euro record but a win guarantees progression) and winning the Scottish cup (the least likely of the three but we start with a home tie and will be favourites for the trophy from when we enter).

Basically do those three things and this is our best season arguably since the days of the first 9 in a row and Lisbon. To progress out of the first stage of the CL with 12 points, whilst winning a domestic treble is a cracking season.

It doesn’t just reflect that on the pitch but off it too. I have commented before, do the three things mentioned above and we are looking at smashing our revenue from last year which was a record by about £10m, our player trading profit will be considerable higher due to the Matt O’Riley, Mikey Johnstone and Bosun Lawal sales, and we have just extended sponsorship and rumoured to have extended our kit deal. We are looking at total income to the club of being something like £155m-160m. Don’t get me wrong we spent more on players too but we still have made a surplus in player trading.

52 goals scored and only 4, 4 conceded. Wow..

Give him whatever he wants.....just so he doesn't rat us again midway through the season :BR1:

Fair play to him, got what he wanted/needed in terms of recruitment in the summer and we've reaped the benefits of having good options off the bench and depth for when the injuries occur. Great football, a near flawless record and making progress in Europe.

Humble pie for me and it tastes great

What a difference a year makes. Felt last year’s game he was under serious pressure. Absolutely no doubt in my mind he’s a top class manager

The guy has given us way better football than I expected when he came back. Think he is also a far more personable guy than he was in the past. Winning will always be the main thing, but as we’ve pretty much been doing that for 25 years being entertained is a huge and welcome bonus. He’s doing that.

He's seem alot more invested this time. Always felt like he checked out a bit after his invincible season first time round.

Absolutely. Although I think he's grown on the back of his Leicester job. Don't see him running away again. He seems calmer this time and knew he had a little making up to do, which he's done and then some.
