The football looks excellent so far, get our defence sorted and we're going to have a fantastic season.

Having Rodgers as manager along with JK and the backroom team gives me confidence for the season ahead.

Next 7 to 14 days are crucial. No disrespect to Ross County but we have more than enough to deal with them.

We need bodies in defence though and sharpish.

Rodgers must be delighted that he's inherited a team with such a high level of fitness and been so well drilled at pressing everything the last couple of season, means there's very little work to do raising the standards on that side of things and can pretty much get straight on with the job of trying to improve individuals and work on tactics.

Brendan Rodgers outlines 22-man Celtic testimonial plan

    Thoughts on the game?

It always feels like a loss when you concede so late on. The workout was perfect for us. I thought we had some spells of fantastic football and it was the perfect type of game that we needed. Of course, the game gets a bit broken when you are making so many changes so you lose that fluency and the rhythm of the game so in the last 25 minutes, we probably gave the ball away too much. We have to be better in that aspect but overall I am really pleased. It was a great exercise against and fantastic side.

How pleased were you with the intensity?

Yeah, it is very important for a team of mines to impose the issue of a game as high up the pitch as you can and like I say we have guys who are willing to work and run. It was a great finish from Kyogo Furuhashi, and we had other chances as well, some other fantastic chances, but it was a really good workout.

Where do you need to improve?

I think it is just about building on the fitness and aspects of the positioning. The team is obviously playing well but there are certain phases of the play we can improve but I thought in the build-up, we were really good under pressure. It is just about the positional elements and on Tuesday we will play two teams as players need to get some minutes into their legs and then that will be our final preparation before the season starts.

    Thoughts on the support?

There are very few clubs that can get this amount of fans in, in such a short period of time. A big thank you to everyone who turned up. I know there are people who come over from all different areas of Ireland to be here. It is great that they came and made a great atmosphere.

His ability to develop and improve a player will be key for us, but as already mentioned we do need to add quality, really excited for the season ahead.

It’s always special for Celtic to return back to Ireland and the 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers was another example of the passion and support for the Hoops on the other side of the Irish Sea.

Taking on the English Premier League side in Dublin at the Aviva Stadium, the Celts put on a strong performance for the 30,000 fans that were out to support the team, with Kyogo’s opener cancelled out by a late penalty from Wolves.

With just a week to go until the competitive football begins, it was an extremely important outing for the team to prepare for the league campaign by taking on strong opposition, and Brendan Rodgers was delighted with what he saw from his team.

Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, he said: “It was a great exercise. I think I mentioned that it was going to be a step up in the level of the opponent and I really enjoyed the game.

“We started really well and penetrated in behind so many times, scored a goal and could have had a few more.

“We had to defend at times, of course, playing against really good opposition that was strong and diligent in that side of the game.

“In the second-half, the game started well and then the changes, which naturally happens, meant we lost the rhythm a little bit.

'Overall there was some fantastic football and some things to look at and work on and we can analyse the game next week.'

“Naturally, we are nearly four weeks in so players are starting to get fit. Some guys are still a bit behind but overall our fitness levels and preparations are very good.”

Of course, the football was the main reason behind the game, but the visit to Dublin was also extra special as it gave the huge Celtic fan base in Ireland the chance to see their heroes in action.

It’s a stadium and a city Brendan Rodgers has been to many times before and he was thrilled to see such a turnout.

He added: “A big thank you to the supporters as to get 30,000 here in a short period of time is brilliant.

'The stadium is fantastic, the pitch was great, the atmosphere was great, so it’s always a privilege to come back here with Celtic.'

“Hopefully the support enjoyed it and they certainly sang their hearts out.”

Next up, the manager will be back in the Celtic Park dugout for the first time since 2019 as Celtic take on Athletic Club on Tuesday in James Forrest’s testimonial.

The manager is hoping a packed-out Paradise will be there to cheer on James and the team, on what’s set to be a special night.

He said: “He thoroughly deserves it for his time here at the club and he’s still a very important player for me this season.

“I didn’t want to take any risk with James today which is why I didn’t bring him on.

“It’s a big night for him and hopefully we get as many people there.

“To come back has been great and to walk out at Celtic Park is always a privilege.”

Brendan Rodgers insists his appetite for success at Celtic is stronger than when he first arrived at the club.

The Hoops boss is also determined to lap up every moment of his second spell at Parkhead and believes he's a better manager now than when he delivered two successive trebles. As a new campaign is set to commence with a flag day against Ross County on Saturday, the Irishman is convinced his time at Leicester City, where he was sacked last season, will serve him well for the challenges ahead. Rodgers lifted all the domestic silverware on offer during his previous two and half years in Glasgow before heading down south and his greed for more glory days is greater than ever

He said: "I've come back with more experience, more games under my belt but equally, more hunger. There is probably a greater appreciation, that's for sure. In terms of football and having gone away for four and half years and working in the most competitive league in the world, the English Premier League with top players and top managers, so you will only develop and learn from that.

I think I'll enjoy it even more now that I am back. The first time I was here, and I loved my time here, it was great. But having gone away for four and a half years, I had a lot to think about before coming back

It wasn't just about coming back to Celtic, there were lots of things off the field and on the pitch. I said to myself that I was going to enjoy every single moment of being back here again, both in terms of life and in football and I intend to do that."

Celtic's 1-1 draw with Wolves in a weekend friendly with Wolves produced a host of positives as well as a confirmation for Rodgers that he made the right call to make a return to the club after Ange Postecoglou moved to Tottenham. There was also an admission that there's a greater weight on his shoulders to emulate his past achievements and make a European impact.

He said: "Coming back has just felt like coming back to family again. It certainly feels that way . It doesn't feel like going to a football club as such. I'm back here with people who understand.

Look, I also come back here, because I left and because of the success I had the last time, I come back here with a greater pressure and a greater expectation.

"But that's one of the reasons I did come back, to take that on. Like I've said previously, there was nothing nostalgic about it. It was about coming here to win and to win in a way in which I want to play the game."

Rodgers has now had several months to assess the squad he has inherited from the Australian and he's been pleasantly surprised at the quality of his squad and the players already in place. He said: "It's a really good level and it's important we build on that but the actual technical quality, when you have that within your squad allows you to play to a very high level.

There's a lot of young players and some good experience in there and we have some really important players still to come back which is great."

South Korean duo Kwon and Yang were both handed debuts from the bench against Wolves and Rodgers was impressed by the pair in their brief cameos at the Aviva Stadium.

He said: "It's going to take a little bit of time but Kwon I like, he's physical and has a nice touch on the ball and sees the pass early. I think once he got up to speed he was good. Yang is a direct winger and he was good when he got up to the physicality."

Celtic bring the curtain down on their pre-season programme with a testimonial for James Forest against Athletic Bilbao on Tuesday night and Rodgers is hoping to have Carl Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers available after the defensive pairing were absent from their weekend match in Dublin.

    snake,

The Irishman spoke to Sky Sportsabout how he previously departed the club back in 2019, admitting he doesn’t regret his actions: “I made a decision to leave which I didn’t regret. Celtic done well after I left and I had a good spell at Leicester and I come back and I’ve had a great support from the Celtic supporters. You won’t always get everyone onside but my experience in life tells me that people forget when it suits and they forget when it’s convenient.”

wish he’d just shut up and manage as I don’t want to hear his pish

Brendan Rodgers insists he wants to make Celtic fans 'dream again' and isn't worried about the reception he'll get from the Green Brigade.

Rodgers will return to the Parkhead dugout for the first time since 2019 when James Forrest's testimonial match takes place tomorrow. The Northern Irishman has been welcomed back by the majority of supporters following his controversial move to Leicester City four-and-a-half years ago, but the Green Brigade haven't been so forgiving.

The fan group doubled down branding double Treble-winning Rodgers a "fraud" just moments after his stunning re-appointment was announced in June. However, Rodgers remains unfazed by the sideshow and made it clear his priority is bringing even more silverware to the east end of Glasgow

He told Sky Sports Scotland: "There's no apprehension. I made a decision to leave which I said before, I didn't regret. Celtic did well after I left. I had a good spell at Leicester and we won some trophies. I come back and I've had great support from the Celtic supporters

Listen, you won't always get everyone onside, but I think my experience in life tells me that people forgive when it suits, and they forget when it's convenient. My job is to purely concentrate on the players and the staff and make sure we can be the best that we can be in order to help the supporters dream again.

"I'm pretty sure the first time I was here, not everyone was behind me and it'll probably be the same here. But as long as everyone supports the team and gives them everything, then hopefully we can have a great season again."

Green brigade better not make it about them or BR tomorrow and, I'm sure they won't. It's James Forrest night and deserves it for everything he's contributed.

Moving on from there, it's absolutely pointless to openly go against BR. Only harm the team/club.

Let's get behind the team and let the football do the talking.
