Exactly. We had no right to win that season. Field of dreams stuff. Not sure I'll ever see that sort of season again. Incomparable really.

For me this is best Celtic team iv seen since MON's team.

Ange team was good and was exciting to watch but you kinda always knew in ur heart of hearts that when it came to Europe we'd be turned over under him.

Rodgers has took the good from Ange's team and adapted it to his own style and we may very well get beat on Tuesday night but genuinely for the 1st time since MON's team do i find myself thinking we could just as easily go there and spank Dortmund.

It was a season we had little expectations of and ended up with something really special, up against a Hun team that previous year was unbeaten and reached a European final that season. And we had a very real connection with the manager and players. One of the best ever seasons for me. But think Ange would say he had a better season and team following year. Doesn’t diminish the season before any. Only season for a long time we were wrote off and underdogs it’s a different feeling that

Bit older than you mate. Had a fair few seasons where we've (rightly) been underdogs. The ones we've come through and won are incomparable to the ones we expected to win for me. It's not even close. What Ange did that first season I've never seen close to for us. MON some might argue but for me totally different.

There's no getting away from the fact last season some if not alot of the football was absolutely pish bordering on eyebleed stuff. This season it's on a different level not only to last season but to what we've seen here in years.

He alluded to it on his interview with a wee dig at the journos. This is his team now, the board backed him with the type of player he wants and the players are all on the same page, the transition from Angeball wasn't easy but BR has his swagger back and its showing on the pitch..

    Brendanball > Angeball:BR1:

Wim Jansen stopping the ten season for me. O’Neill’s treble after Barnes as well. But like I said mate, they seasons are a long time ago now. 24 years from MON’s treble.

Ah * I just realised Henrik left 20 years ago. Doesn’t seem right that :56:

Aye, those. Had to wait a long time for them. The centenary season for me was when things started to change. What a season that was.

That one I was too young for, first memories of us was under Tommy.

Some of WGS seasons deserve a mention, was never teams of great football but by * did he have teams that had some great, exceptional moments. Never knew a team like it for late winners.

Aye, could never figure out why some didn't take to WGS. He was a very clever manager.

Night and day between this season and last he seems to have improved every player from Taylor to meada playing as a team how long before epl comes knocking

I get where Brendan is coming from but I do think this season critics have been giving credit where it’s due for the performances. They have stepped it up a few gears from last year. He can’t deny how angry he was at points for the performances last year. The one against St Johnstone springs to mind. He’s bringing up what was said last year but there’s no point even comparing them because it was clearly a period of growth. All the focus should on where we are now and what is said in the here and now.

I could be wrong and this could be recency bias. But I feel like under ange we didn’t score many long range or ‘silky’ goals like the idah one last night. We’ve scored so many out the box too so far and for me this is more enjoyable to watch than angeball.

whether it’s that opponents are dropping off more than under ange or we’re pushing teams back, but now even if we’re passing about at the back it’s usually on or past the halfway line

Rodge ball is better. It's like a silky, more controlled aggressive and better version of niave angeball. A type of football that's not only blowing teams away, but blew a team away in the champions league. Our biggest ever win.

I'd be very * worried in the summer if we keep this up. The big team vulchers will be circling with their golden claws trying to rip this team apart. Think this is it. For once we've assembled a team that will go far in Europe. Mind that time ajax went wild into the semis? It's finally our turn. We're gonna destroy teams.

I said it in the post mate. Ange's team always risked conceding. That made it more exciting in a way, games were tighter. I love seeing us gub teams 6-0 but it's not as exciting as scraping a 3-2 if you know what I mean.

It was one of the best underdog years we had. Others felt bigger though. 97-98 was incomparable. Right down to the wire, awesome season.

I don't know which one is more exciting; but I genuinely like watching this football more. The quick, intelligent interplay is of a level I haven't seen here in a long time. The obvious comparison is Larsson, Sutton and Lubo; but the one that keeps popping into my head is Lubo, Viduka and Berkovic.

I know that's going to sound a bit crazy, as that clearly wasn't a great team; but IMHO those 3 were an insanely gifted combination and although they didn't always work well together (due to the manager and the attitude problem of 2 out of the 3), when they did click, they produced some passing sequences of a quality I haven't seen again at Celtic until now.

It's a real credit to Rodgers, firstly because IMO those 3 had more raw talent than any other combination I've seen at Celtic* and because we were still doing it last night even when we changed the personnel in the second half.

    * Obviously Larsson and Sutton were a better combination in terms of effectiveness; but in terms of raw talent, they weren't IMO.

Edit: I'd love to have seen what someone like Rodgers could have done with the players John Barnes had btw!

Look, I know it's only his word for it, but this quote from the article Crow posted in the Haksabanovic thread fits quite well with the fact that they definitely bought a lot of players who Rodgers didn't want to play: https://www.talkceltic.net/forums/threads/sead-haksabanovic.154791/page-90#post-7752558

I'm glad the power struggle ended with Rodgers getting what he wanted; but we basically wasted a whole season by not just backing him in the first window the way we did this summer.
