BRENDAN RODGERS has no regrets over calling referee John Beaton incompetent.

The Celtic boss has been hit with a one-match ban (with a further one suspended) following the remarks he made about the whistler following his team's 2-0 defeat at Hearts earlier this month.

Rodgers said the club as a whole was disappointed that he was given any form of ban, but that they respected the SFA's final decision.

He said in an interview with Sky Sports: "We're obviously disappointed with the outcome.

    "However, we respect the decision.

"My thanks go to the club for their unwavering support on helping me fight this.

But we respect the decision and move on."

Asked specifically if he had any regrets over his choice his words, Rodgers doubled down and said that wasn't the case.

He said: "No, I just think there's been a misunderstanding of interpretation.

"In all my time when I've been in Scotland I've talked about standard and improving standards, whether it's about VAR on this occasion or whether it was about [transfer] fees or the pitches we play on

My whole drive has always been about the standards and I felt on that day it wasn't quite where we want it to be.

"The interpretation was maybe misconstrued but certainly I've no regrets."

In terms of how Celtic will adapt on Sunday for the match against Livingston, Rodgers said: "We'll have all our preparation done before the game and then I've got John Kennedy on the sidelines and other coaches who are fantastic.

"I'll be in the stand and we can relay information from there

It's my first experience of it, I've never been banned before during my time in management.

"It'll be interesting observing from the stand but we'll have communication."

As a result of the ban, Rodgers will miss this Sunday's game against Livingston but be able to return to the dugout for the following weekend's Old Firm clash against Rangers.

Rodgers said: "You never like to miss any game but Celtic vs Rangers games are huge games.

We’ll take our punishment at the weekend and then I’ll be looking forward to that game afterwards."

Fat Boyd saying the SFA's punishment is "weak"

    * clown he is, the SFA have basically given him the same ban as others have received over the years for similar offences.

All except huns managers, that can get away with saying exactly what they want without any ban or trial for that matter.

Utter waste of space and oxygen Boyd is.

Been OK to have him back for most but at least we are now into the final few games of his tenure. Least he seems will see the season out but by * we are in for a tough, tough rebuild in the summer on a smaller budget whilst selling our best players to make up for the UCL cash shortfall. Wonder how long it will take to appoint a new manager this time

Hopefully, I dread to think how toxic it will be if we lose the league, and I shudder at the thought of Rodgers constructing a rebuild.

If he wins us the league after our extremely poor recruitment windows I'll back him again for next year.

Same, I’m backing him now to get us over the line and if he does like you said after those shocking windows I think he definitely deserves credit

He absolutely shouldn't be, but over the last month I feel like he's successfully deflected the attention from his failings. He had every right to be * at the corruption vs diets, but he's smart like that.

His quotes since about being excited for a rebuild in the summer and the fact his face is plastered over the pre-season promo is also giving me the fear.

Can’t see the board paying out on his contract compo, he’ll be here either way.

The fans will hound him though, his position would be untenable.
