I read HP and Tolkien as an *; but apart from that, I had quite a similar experience. C.S. Lewis was/is also good.

We all do that. I don't think it's a bug; it's one of the mental superpowers that allow us to learn our first language as young kids IMO!

I read HP over and over for about 4/5 years. Tried them recently and * me, the writing is poor. Ideas and concept great but if I read ‘he smirked’ one more time I’d have went mad:56:

Also missed out Terry Pratchett’s, from early 80’s to mid-2010’s, favourite ever author, by far.

I heard Rodgers said he met him and Terry said he was his inspiration and idol, and Rodgers told him he’ll always have a place at Parkhead. With a twinkle on his cheeky Irish eyes.

The youngsters with talent and an ego a dump is exactly where you’d want them to get to grips professionally, I know you’re joking there btw but it’s something we should absolutely do more.

Lenny tried to do it with Karamoko and Queen of the South, and got told no he’d be in the CL next year. Now he’s on loan at Blackpool, and that’s a loan to make him learn humility and hard work, cos talents nowhere near enough

I'm going through Pratchett again now due to the new audiobooks. Even if you don't like audiobooks, you should give the Indra Varma ones a try. She's head and shoulders above most of the others (although Andy Serkis is also really good).

Many of the books are just as good as I remembered (the Watch series, Small Gods, the Death series, etc), a few (basically early Rincewind) seem less good and some actually much better. For example, I could kind of take or leave the witches as a young man; but at 46, they seem amazing. Even more surprising, I just finished Monstrous Regiment, which I didn't like as a young man (I thought it was stupid) and was amazed to find, 20 years later, that it's actually one of his best. It's a work of utter genius.

I've Just started Going Postal again.

I’ve got so used to the older Audiobooks that I just can’t switch to the new ones despite the quality being vastly better. We’ve turned the BR thread Discworldy here:56:

Didn't you know it was Brendan's management achievements that inspired Penguin to record them? :fear:

It’s Brendan that voices everyone in the new recordings, including Bill Nighy’s cameos.

Can we put to bed now this idea that he is a great manager,if things do not change drastically this team is losing the league.

    They deserved to win tbh.

I'm fuming but you can't really say we deserved anything. Making a * title race out of nothing. Bullied. Weak. Bland. Any word you want to use.

Just horrific. Worried after today tbh.

Goes far higher than rodgers this does.

He is a good manager, specially at this level.

But the clubs a shambles and he's not helped at all.

He takes blame for today though and blame for a lot of things. He needs to compromise on his style and work with the limited talent he has here.
But he's never gonna be backed properly by this club and the sooner he realises that the better for us all.

Or he's sleep walking in to defeats now
