To be fair it’s hard to assess how much of it is Brendan or the fact we are just a worse team than last year.

I’ll say for sure the attacking this season has been much staler, bordering on boring the * off me some weeks.

But ultimately the year is 2023 and we still have James Forrest, Mikey Johnstone, and big Joe all in or around the first team…

Nae harm to the boy he might still turn out a player, but we trusted a young winger from the K league with 1 goal and assist to his name to start off our champions league campaign…. That’s just a brass neck in terms of recruitment and the ambition this board have for the club.

If Brendan approved those signings then fair enough, he’s absolutely shat the bed in that case. But I would say it’s far more likely the board going back to their old habits of recruitment.

See if we were showing ambition and doing well in Europe, it would be easier to attract better players also though as we would be a more attractive proposition.

Here's the thing: in order to be doing well in Europe, we would have to take a few names down using ugly football that's within our ability. After a few years, we'd be able to attract players enabling us to do Rodgers/Ange "modern" football. We're never beating anyone trying to imitate big clubs with * knockoffs.

We have the money to bring in 3 or 4 players to fill key positions we need. Had we done that in the summer, I reckon we would have had a very good chance to progress. We would have still been in Europe beyond Xmas I reckon. That Lazio team are poor, and Feyenoord aren’t much better in all honesty.

At best, any "nice guy" board would sanction 2 out of those 3-4 players at once. Also, we can't forget that big clubs have players worth far more than the mythical £10M. And attracting £10M players might indeed be the issue. But Rodgers never seemed to hint that we tried bidding for such players.

A tactically upgraded 2013 philosophy is what we need. A focus on practicality. If we bring down a few names, decent players will start to notice us.

As I said in the summer transfer thread, months ago, the major issue we have with recruitment is two fold.

The club will gamble on 5 players at the cost of 10m, rather than 2 players at 10m.
Secondly, our scouting department in genuinely in the * toilet. Ange came in a basically handed them a full list of targets. Once that list was exhausted, it's was back to porridge. "is he half decent? Can he do a job in the spfl? Is he cheap? Sign him up".
As I said in that thread, give Shelby half an hour and a laptop and he would find us an LB, fit for Europe, under 6m.
Now there's @Celtic_Daft1888 just made a list of targets that would make our scouting dept blush.

We're a * * show. Ran by cowards and operated by incompetent morons.

We're in big * trouble unless we adapt to the modern game asap

    I don't disagree.

It's a chicken and egg situation though. Need to push the boat out and get some of these guys through the door. We have a big selling point in that if they perform well we are an easy ticket to the EPL.

They were talking about Celtic spending on talk sport and spending over £23 million on 9 players but making good money on Jota and starfelt being sold .
So just say from buying and selling players it's 2 or 3 million difference how the * are you to do anything in the champions League with those figures.
You could have pep as manager and he would struggle with the money spent going into the top tournament.

Yes but in what way would pep struggle?

Would his results and/or performances be the same, better or worse?

Would the style of football be more or less entertaining, or just the same?

He'd win domestic competitions, but could not get this group of players to perform better in Europe than they have thus far. The kind of football he champions is something above our squad's ability. Far above. It must be noted he started his managerial career at Barcelona. A club with a settled football philosophy and vast resources.

Going by your answer you think Rogers is at fault and the players we are buying are fine and just think whoever is in charge we would still struggle in Europe with the present squad.

    And you know this how?

That's nothing more than an appeal to ignorance, an attempt to back up a point with a nonsense statement that can't be proven. We see this "even pep blah blah" all too frequently and its pure garbage.

Because he's never had to work at a club with our level of players and resources.

So how can you, or anyone, say he would struggle and be no better than brendan rodgers?
