He always gets us competing in Europe, with lots of control in the games, against teams with far more resources.

    He’s an elite manager.

Even games we’ve not got the wins in like Man City, Bayern, and tonight, we’ve always competed. As well as good victories against the likes of Leipzig, Zenit, Anderlecht.

Were we getting there last year? I remember RB Leipzig and Real beating us very comfortably home and away and a couple of draws against a team much weaker at the time than Feyenoord and Atletico are this year. This is our best CL result since Anderlecht.

Somewhere in the depths of my subconscious, there's a repressed memory of some team called Celta (Vigo???) being utterly dismantled home and away by some other team called Boris St Jerome. Not sure what that's all about; but apart from this I basically agree with you.

Aye, I think everyone felt we were moving in the right direction but we lacked that clinical instinct and it cost us. I’m not suggesting tonight is not a very good result but the reality of the situation is that we we were handed a favourable group (again) in relative terms & it’s looking highly likely we’re going to finish bottom (again). Proud of the result but the campaign already feels frustrating as * & we’re only half way through.

That Shakter side was probably the worst we've played in CL in the last 15 years.

Basically torn apart by the war and playing in Poland for home games.

I think some of that is luck this year though, mate. We should be sitting here on 2 points and Lazio behind us on 1. Instead, they're on 4 and we're on 1. That's different from the last campaign. At no point did I feel we were just unlucky last year.

Agreed. I'm still raging at Juranovic for the away game. They basically had one weapon and there's no way Ange, JK and Strachan didn't do the analysis and prepare JJ for how to deal with Mudryk and as far as I can tell, he just decided to ignore that and play his normal game.

This Celtic side would win home and away to Shakhtar last season tbh.

We are now going to be completely untouchable domestically under him and will chip away further at Europe with some financial backing in the market. That much is tangibly apparent.

Agreed we were unlucky vs. Lazio but you have to make your own luck in this competition. Ultimately mistakes & inexperience have cost us so far (and could potentially be fatal) this year. Last year the main theme was not taking our chances but it felt like our performances merited more. Coming back to my point, I don’t think we were far away last year either. And I feel with the right investment in the summer we should/would have at least finished 3rd this year. Still time yet but it feels like we’ll need to look to next year to have tangible progress. Feel like I’m maybe ranting in the wrong thread as I’m not blaming our likely lack of progress from the group on BR.

    This.

If we back him we will qualify or do something at least at some point.

The key thing is if we back him. I don't have confidence in us doing so.

Tactically he is streets ahead of Ange IMO.

Would also add for all the chat of him playing a slow, boring style, that first half was peak Rodgers fitba. Controlled yet fast and exciting. A mental mix.

Fair play to the rat *, we are playing some stuff now probably that St Johnstone home game we drew 0-0 to now the performances have been really good.

I was worried about the come down from Angeball but we're playing really controlled stuff and knocking the ball about well even in Europe. Clicked quite quick after the first 5/6 messy games of the season.

We looked very good tactically and a good press, just couldn’t keep it going and he ruined our chances with the Forrest sub plus not using the last 2 subs at the same time.

We're finally starting to click under Rodgers. I think he's set us up well in every CL game so far, and tonight he got his rewards for it. I think in hindsight the Phillips for Palma sub was the right call, seemed to allow us to calm down a bit more and they didn't really create much after it.

But when you look at the bench and the other options, realistically Yang, Oh and Iwata were the only two you'd have expected could've come on and made a difference, but still are downgrades on the players already on the pitch. The board needs to back Rodgers in January and Summer because he has shown in these last few games that we are more than capable of getting results at this level.

The revamps to the CL next year could be huge for us: more games against weaker opposition and the opportunity for us to challenge ourselves against better teams more regularly.

I'd suggest that tonight * all over anything we seen under Postecoglou, in Europe at least. AP needs top level players to compete against top level teams, due to his tactical tunnel vision. Whereas Rodgers is far more tactically astute where he can combat better teams with his ingenuity.

He's exactly the type of manager for us in our current predicament. Guy is perfect for us.

Imagine the board actually backed him. Top manager.

Hes also somehow made us able to pass it out the back like we know what we're doing. Kept some of anges inverted full back, yet made us more solid. No doubt ange would've lost last night. He knows what he's doing anyway.
