I think the board just feel in love with the concept of cheaper buys that come ģood.

It worked, we got so many cheap starter quality players for under 3 mil.

Well they bought in another 7 or 8 and none of them look like they will be starter quality :(

January is huge. We need starters that weren't signed in the summer. Just make it happen.

BRENDAN RODGERS is hoping to celebrate his 700th game as a manager in style against Kilmarnock today, and he has set his sights on bringing up his thousandth match as a head coach at Celtic.

Celtic supporters may be wary of declarations of loyalty to the club from Rodgers after the way he left for Leicester City back in 2019, but the Northern Irishman is adamant he is in it for the long haul this time around, targeting at least another 300 games in the dugout.

When told that today's game at Celtic Park would be his 700th as a manager, Rodgers said: “There you go. I look like it as well! Times goes fast, eh?

“I was 35 when I took my first manager’s job. It has been 15 years. I was obviously coaching for 15 years before that. I am very proud of my career, but hopefully we can keep having more exciting moments and exciting times.

“I think you have to have resilience and persistence in management. You know there are going to be ups and downs in it. But I have been very fortunate in my career to have a lot of really good moments and good times and work with a lot of fantastic players and coaches.

“I am looking forward to this next decade now. My target was always to get to 1,000 games as a manager.

“It is a sign of resilience and persistence to keep going and you have to do well. Hopefully I can achieve that here at Celtic and keep looking to win games.”

Meanwhile, Rodgers says he will be careful with his handling of Cameron Carter-Vickers after his star centre back made his return from injury off the bench in the midweek defeat to Lazio.

Carter-Vickers showed signs of rust as he gave the ball away for Lazio’s stoppage time winner, and Rodgers is cautious as he looks to bleed him back into the side.

“We wanted to get him out there,” he said.

“He has trained for a little bit, it was just about getting him into the game, getting him a half hour. “Nat (Phillips) as well was obviously coming back having not played a great deal. So, we managed to get the two of them some game time.

“These things [the mistake] happen. We have to be there to cover each other. We give the ball away in other areas of the pitch. We have to just learn from that.”

And fans. So many fans love the fantasy of an exotic player coming in on the cheap and tearing things up. We got high on Kyogo, Hatate and Maeda... and the club went out and splashed the cash on similar players from Asia. However none of them have delivered and we now have several squad players that are unlikely to step up. Add in to that Bernabei who looks like a complete dud now. These players at £2/3 m each will end up being a drain and not just financially. The club is not bringing through enough young players now and are reluctant to spend that £7m that can bring in the likes of CCV, Jota or Édouard, hoping that one of the gems or projects will produce the goods.

I thought his subs were a bit weird today tbh, bringing off Palma for Forrest right after we concede was a strange one.

That's my only real complaint, it was our best performance of the season by far, on another day we win that by about 7, and it looks like we've found our starting 11. We should have Tilio and Nawrocki back after the break and CCV and Phillips will be fully fit.

found and knows it, but that wasnt it today.

Abada and Nowrocki I think walk in to that 11 when they return.

Take it you expect Nowrocki to take Scales place? Not sure about that at all. At the moment not even sure its close.

Nah, not for me it's Scales place to lose..

Abada will never be a guaranteed starter for us, as much as I like him.

Yeah think Nawrocki does go straight back in. I do agree though, it should be Scales position to lose, but I think he will be fighting harder to keep it than he has done - which is truly really harsh because of how well he truly has been doing.

Abada as well, think Rodgers has a soft spot for him and he walks back in as well

Nawrocki has looked OK, but when fit if Scales keeps doing what he's doing, he keeps Nawrocki out..

Rodgers rightly loves Maeda and he is better on the left, which gives better balance when Abada returns but if Palma keeps doing his thing, Abada certainly doesn't walk back in..

It will be excellent to have those options mind.

Can hardly even remember Nowrocki in all honesty. Does he send a pressing player the wrong way with the turn of a head and then turn and stroll deep into the opposition half, before offloading with a no look pass like Scales? If not, I'm not buying,

Agree. We just need to show we can consistently get that level of performance.

Was some move by the bold one.

Honestly though, all credit to Scales, he has been one of our best players the last month or so of games.

But long term, he isn't the required level. Happy to see him prove that wrong, but it feels more like a Ralston thing, where he can look the part and prove to be a solid and dependable squad player, but won't be the level we need for UCL or even Europa. Nawrocki, jury is still out, but I have more expectations and hope with him.

Seems to have well and truly left his ego at the border. Taylor especially has been moved back to inverted and it's showed over the last few games. I have no problem with a manager using a player to their strength even if it wouldn't be their first thought tactically. Very impressed with that.

If we had only pushed the boat out a bit more we might even be top of our CL group and 10 points ahead in the league.
