    Things that are clear.

    1. We are competing at this level.
    2. We are a few signings away from being a really good side.
    3. Our players badly lack European pedigree.

I've said before, that paying a bit extra for 1 or 2 top players coming to the end of their career would make a huge difference. Look at 36 year old Pedro there. Our team is young and they would learn so much.

I thought we were a much better defensive unit with CCV on until the individual error. Even our passing out from the back was better.

He’s * into the wind going into a champions league campaign with the squad he’s been given. We know it, he knows it I just hope he’s patient and we properly back him in the next couple of windows otherwise he’ll be gone and there’s no way we’ll get another manager of the same sort of standard as him or Ange.

Everything Brendan Rodgers said to TNT Sports after the game.

What were your thoughts on the game?

It was disappointing in terms of the result, of course. I was disappointed for the players as they gave so much to the game and they scored a fantastic goal. I'm disappointed with the goal we conceded. We came out in the second half and apart from one chance early on, we looked like the team that would go on and win it and we thought we had done. We were just unfortunate that Daizen makes a touch and it left Luis Palma offside. I'm disappointed with the winning goal. You just have to secure the game at that point. That's just game management, you have to make sure you have control of the ball and the space before you vacate it. And just that one moment of quality with the cross and header sees us lose the game but I can't fault the players for the effort and commitment we showed.

Did you miss too many chances?

Yeah. Yes. That's something that's important at this level. We get into some really good areas but that's about quality and sadly we didn't quite have it in certain moments of the game. But I can't be critical of this group of players. What they've given the game against a good side with some top-quality technical players, we should have had more from that game.

What did you make of the referee's performance?

They're not so good. There's a lot you see now and in Europe, it's a bit more precious even than the domestic game. I watched the Champions League games last night and obviously tonight, some strange decisions to be honest. I'll focus more on the performance and the performance deserved something from the game. We didn't quite get that but we'll fight another day.

What's the plan for progression in this group?

It's one where we'll do what we've always done. We'll analyse the performance and we'll see where we could do better. We'll be here again for Atletico to show the spirit and the fight. Let's see if we can get a result then.

That's the thing that's most frustrating. We do look well set up and aren't giving away as many chances on the whole but typically we haven't backed it up with the right signings. Classic celtic.

    Honestly dunno mate tbh.

Even after making that mistake our reaction wasn't great. Leaving Pedro unmarked back post, entire defence ball watching. Mcgregor could have taken the guy out too.

    Just poor all round.

We've been the better side in the last two CL games, absolutely schooled the huns in their own backyard with a makeshift backline and won comfortably at Livingston with 10 men. All games we struggled in last season.

Just makes it even more frustrating that Rodgers wasn't backed, get him a LB that can overlap, a big ST to interchange with Kyogo and a GK that isn't on the decline and I'm certain we have 4, maybe even 6, points from these 2 games.

No harm to the boy, but starting Yang in such a big game reeks of Ralston against PSG.

He talks about developing the squad and adding quality that's the key for me.. surely we'll add quality in Jan.

Yang looks nowhere near it for me.

Certainly right now. But that's the thing he should be having to be relied upon in such a scenario.

    * window overall but we all seen it coming. £80m in the bank...just sick of saying the same things and conceding the same goals in Europe.

Sadly be too late by that point for this European season mate.

This isnthe issue. Far too reactive instead of proactive.

Even then I'd be astonished if we make the right moves.

Aye its becoming our rendition of "disappointing" from the hall of famer at Ibrokes.

We never learn from it. 10 years of constant failure in Europe under various regimes. 20 if you bring in knock out games. I'd like to know what it is they're "learning" when they watch the games back. Because I've never seen a team like ours who make the same mistakes over and over again.

Thought we controlled the game for the most part. Chucking CCV back in like that is questionable though.

We controlled the game without ever really having proper sustained periods of hitting their goal.

That's a concern for me. I get that in Europe it won't be the same pressure as a home domestic game but, tonight we looked pretty toothless up top. Missing a Dembele or even an Edouard to ping it into, as much as I love Kyogo. I don't think Lazio would have come away from that tonight at 1-1 thinking "* me we got away with one there". They looked very very comfortable and you just knew that one lapse from us and they'd break. We are a dream draw for any side in Europe, have been for years.

Missing a Jota to play that key pass or beat a man. Even Missing an on form Abada to be a bit more direct out right and have a shot.

We just don't look like a complete side at the moment. We will win the league, probably, but it's clear that it seems to be the height of our ambitions.

Another year of no Europe beyond Xmas highly likely. Just really deflating, I'm sick of feeling like this after a mid week game.

He really needs backing and I just don't think it's coming and this time I'm firmly not getting my hopes up for anything to happen. Its just not worth the effort. Domestically aye its our bread and butter but it's sad to see such a big club with such little ambition. It's gonna be hard to make any lasting impact even with more investment but FFS lads at least try.

Rodgers needs sacking and being replaced with a certain man who was in attendance last night. Rodgers might not be totally incompetent, but he is not what we need in Europe. Possession football is not viable with our team. He refuses to see it. Sack.

Think he got the subs totally wrong last night, CCV should never of been put on especially since Phillips & Scales had been solid together. Iwata should of been on instead of Bernardo, not the type of game he should be chucking him on. Yang should of been hooked for Palma at HT and Oh on earlier.

We had a lot of good play but also a lot of sloppy errors that eventually cost us, last 10mins we should of just been going constantly long to Oh, that’s the whole point of having a big physical striker on the pitch.

Deja Vu of last season, not taking chances and then getting punished for the easy mistakes.

I'm serious. We do not have the ability to play possession football. Rodgers insists on it regardless. Lumping the ball forward is best suited to our front players.

If we didn't do it in the summer I can't see us doing it in January when we will most likely be out of Europe. Had all Sumner to get qualify and we didnt, same old prospect nonsense.
