Goes without saying that Europe isn’t his strong point but this is almost unavoidable in footballs current climate

A massive * stain. We’ve had 2 or 3 good performances in Europe under him in 3 years (not incl qualifiers). It’s pitiful

Can't disagree with that but there was an air of inevitability about proceedings tonight. At 60 mins it seemed like the players and management had accepted our fate. No creation. No pressure applied to Valencia. We rolled over and had our tummy tickled.

If we had a go and been beaten 2-0 it would be a little more palatable but this was an average Valencia side that didn't have to play out their skin to comfortably beat us. That should certainly be cause for concern, even given our depleted squad.

Your starting to sound full of it pal. Fairplay if we spent decent money on a flop like borreigter (or whatever his name was) then have a go. But this is a inflated market, replacing jozo or boyata with better defender come at the cost of £1.2M is impossible.

That is why it's not Brendan's fault. It's the boards. One thing I thought about tonight. 60k+ fans, 60k at £35 a shot. That's £2.1M just in gate receipts tonight. That's deserves at least 1 defender to that value surely. Again, Brendan's fault or the board?

When there isnt a lot of teams (if any) at our level domestically, europe has to be the measuring stick.

Id have a league title and a seville type run over a treble any day because euro runs like that are simply far rarer and given our domestic situ, a treble is far easier.

Has to be said....we have massive expectations of this guy. Triple trebles, Ten in a row and European performances. Maybe he's staging it or pacing things. Achieving one goal at a time and maybe the 10th title will be a bigger season in more ways than one :86:

Seemed to be too much emphasis on keeping a clean sheet rather than actually scoring. That Valencia side really weren't impressive but our game plan was to win the possession stat and not concede.

Truth be told i never wanted these 2 games, i know it's extra revenue and all that, but think we could really have done without the extra games.

Shades of the Ibrox performance there. They didnt even have to be anywhere near their best to win. We were constantly misplacing passes to them and even out the park. Boyata and brown two of the main culprits - all of the above similar to the defeat at ibrox. Our attack had only scraps to go on because we were losing the ball so deep in our own half.

Theres an interesting interview gerrard gave to sky (its on “on demand”) as an LA player talking about the season Liverpool threw away the title and that slip.
He states that one of the reasons they managed to blow it is because Rodgers only knows how to play one way and thats to blow away the oponent and that he fails to set up to give teams the respect that they deserve.

Iv watched us in europe now for three seasons under Rodgers and its hard to see how our playing style has changed or progressed. We still make the same anateur mistakes and errors and play the same way. At times we dont even contest games because we beat ourselves by gifting quality opponents guilt edged chances.

From the interview he stated that the younger players learned. Id say they wouldnt have learned too much playing in that system and being part of such a mediocre performance. Maybe from watching Valencias set up, but not from ours.

    Cool mate..

    Why 1.2 though?

Did we no bid around 3.5 for McKenna? Can we no find better than McKenna for 3.5, nevermind Boyata and Simunovic?

Did we no bid supposedly ludicrous money for Piccini and then recently Castagne at the back?

I wish I was * full of it and I didn't have to endure that pish served up tonight by his side..

This is it in a nutshell for me. Domestically he's peerless and i hope he stays, but part of the joy of a successful domestic season is the anticipation of seeing how a successful Celtic team domestically do the following season in Europe. I remember after MON's first season with the treble. I couldn't wait to see how they did in Europe the following autumn/winter and I certainly wasn't disappointed. I still kept that through the Deila years (Deila is a good coach and an OK manager, but in Europe he was totally out of his depth as we all know), but Brendan's second year killed that for me.

This summer I have no doubt I will enjoy very much winning the league in style and I hope I can also enjoy an unbelievable treble treble (fingers crossed); but when the dust settles, I won't spend the summer anticipating watching a history making Celtic team try themselves in Europe, because I know how it will go by now (assuming Brendan is still here, which he probably won't be).

Far from not improving, we've got worse. Brendan's best year in Europe by far was his first.

In the particular sense that he's never going to change, Brendan has a touch of the Deila's against superior opposition.

But the thing is Trebles are also very rare, i don't even think we're good enough right now to have Europe as our measuring stick, our bread and butter is the domestic trophies, i know Europe is vital in terms of revenue, but we have been so powder puff, i hate to see us as the whipping boys for other teams with a superior budget or a more clued up manager.
