Was it Liverpool's structure though. Once he left let's be honest, klopps got players he wanted. Near everyone brilliant. Maybe this is Rodgers biggest weakness and that's why as time goes on at clubs they get worse. Worrying.

Unless something fundamental changes within the boardroom and the recruiting department the Jan window will be little different to this one.

As depressing as that is, no one can argue.

I only hope with this absolute hoarding of cash whoever takes lawells job walks in and says * me, we are swimming in cash here. Let's get it spent

Watching a replay of the Partick game and I'm just noticing Rodgers body language isn't very reassuring. He showed very little positive emotion, never got out of his seat when subs were made and then hammered the performance after.
I guess with two massive egos like him and Lawwell working together it's only a matter of time before a clash. Things seemed to start going wrong from last January's transfer window.
I'm getting the feeling he wants out.

Regardless of how overly analytical all of us here on the forum have become regarding his ability to pick players, I want him to stay.
Hopefully we gets things sorted in the squad and sort recruitment out and this turns out to be nothing but a minor glitch en route to ten.
I've decided to make an effort to be more positive!

In fairness he did come out after and say that he wasn't happy with the performance at all so it would be hard for him to show positivity on the side line.

This goes back further for me than this window or January this goes back to last year and a telling comment he made before a glasgow derby

"Rangers spent £10m pounds in the summer which was far more than us and we are a Champions League club" that set alarm bells ringing at the time with me. Regardless whether or not we think the figures are true or not but that was a telling comment for me.

I genuinely don't think however long he stays whether it's till 10 in a row or at the end of this season that he'll ever match what we did in his first two seasons. We're asking the same group of players to go back to the well for a third season running domestically and in europe without any significant strengthening and its going to bite us in the * eventually. Annoying thing is that it was so preventable.

If we sign McKenna and he ever comes out with the quality over quantity line again I'm done.

An absolute bullshite line we are continually being fed.

At Liverpool they had a panel deciding on players how much if a say the manager had I dont know maybe after Rodgers they changed it and let the manager have a bigger say. Rodgers knew when he came that there wouldnt be much money to spend but some of it could in hindsight have been better spent. The Edouard deal I dont think that he cost £9m maybe with add ons and wages included over 3 years it might be close to that

We just need to qualify. We just want to go as far as we possibly can. We arrived in it last year and went out in the last 16. This year, we want to improve on that

BR: “Edouard is still recovering. He’s working well but it’ll probably be the beginning of next week before he's back. He’s out on the field working hard but not quite ready for the game.

BR on Dedryck Boyata: “It’s very simple and it’s closed now. He had a meeting with the captain and myself. We all spoke about where we were at and agreed we wanted to move on from it.”

BR on Boyata: “We only want good players but, more importantly, we only want good attitudes in the group and that was something that was very clear. He’s trained the last few days with the squad but deems himself not quite right physically to participate in the games.”

BR on Scott McKenna: “He’s a young player that I like, however the clubs have spoken and it’s been made clear that Scott won’t be for sale and won’t be available in this window.”

BR: “We need to strengthen the squad but what is important is that we strengthen it with quality. I’m not interesting in bringing in just any players.”

BR: “I could have added to the group a long time ago in terms of players. What we have to do is bring in players who are going to add real fierce competition to the squad because that’s something we need.”

BR: “Initially there was the disappointment with the Champions League, you can’t deny that. Having been in it the last couple of seasons then going out, especially the way we did, was very disappointing.”

BR: “When I spoke to the players we agreed we had to find a way forward and for that the Europa League is still a very prestigious competition to be involved in.”

BR: “We want to ensure we make no mistakes over these two games, get qualification and then there’s going to be a lot of real football rewards in that for us.

BR: “That’s something we’re very determined to do. We’re not entitled to be in the Champions League. We have to earn the right to be there and unfortunately this year we didn’t.”

Slightly different tone there in that he states we need quality and not just numbers. Slightly more positive sounding than previous quotes of "working with the squad we have". I'm still consigned to the opinion though that we ain't signing anyone in this window.

How can he say he only wants quality in the same breath as talking about liking Mckenna, every time he trots out that line it becomes less believable.

After reading this, knowing we're (most likely, never say never) not going back for McKenna this window, and (most likely, never say never) punting Boyata, I'm feeling a bit more upbeat.
Looking forward to the game Thursday now. As things stand I'll take our current squad till January, it has the potential to get out of the groups should we make it.
So lets get ourselves into the groups and start going back to what we've done quite well over the last two years, winning football matches.
And lets get our scouting for the Jan window started now!!! Lets actually be prepared to move quickly this time.

I would still like to see boyata moved on, that money reinvested in the back line (preferably Bruma if there's genuine interest) and even another centre back brought in as cover.

If he continues to pick lustig game after game though I will start to doubt if he knows what he's doing. Like the big mad Swedish * but it's clear to see his time as a regular starter is up. I like gamboa but wouldn't be against a right back coming in.

It's fine saying we can make moves in January but the window is still open what the * is stopping us getting deals done now?
