Definitely think he's been involved in the signings up to this point, Sinclair and Toure were clearly brought because of him and he talked about chasing Musonda for ages highly doubt after what he had to deal with at Liverpool he'd be happy letting others take control of transfers wouldn't be surprised if there's some tension as the board have always had their issues with managers and transfers ever since seville.

“All I know is that he is a young Australian, a very talented player and went to the World Cup where he looked very, very good,” said Rodgers.

“The club are working hard behind the scenes to try and get some signings in. I think he’s been one that has been identified.

“It is not my job. Let's see what players the club brings in. I work with the players that are here, develop them, improve them, that is my job."

Last bit just reeks of frustration from him.

Morgan and Johnson miss out on game time for next 2 seasons to polish a player we will never get full time.

Or we could potentially be playing a better player for 2 full seasons, and even with Johnston send him out somewhere on loan where he will get regular starting game time (which he won't this season at Celtic whether we sign Arzani or not).

There's no good reason not to sign talented, available players. Competition helps everybody in the squad.

So he is now saying he is not in charge of transfers.....

Then who is in charge needs a kick right in the Baws cause we clearly need a centre half in pronto.

If we are not looking for one then sack the * in charge of tranfers and identifying playets and get someone else in.

Tbh I don't know what to believe in regards to the transfers.

His comments change daily I've found. Quite often.

I don’t really know what to think about his comments regarding transfers. Sounds like he knows hardly anything about Arzani.

Worries me slightly. I thought as soon as Brendan came on he would be in charge of all transfers. I know he has brought in Sinclair etc but it’s stupid bringing in players that the manager isn’t keen on. For example Compper who I don’t think he had much say on or any prior knowledge of.

Didn’t think the board would mess about with Brendan in charge.

But sometimes I don’t even know if he realises that we are desperately needing defenders. Most players linked are attack minded.

Many have said he didn't have much control at Liverpool, it may be something he doesn't want to take heavy handed control over, some Managers don't like it.

Last season's goal return was horrendous. We need some more attack minded players. I want more 5/6/7-0 wins.

This new formation with 2 strikers looks very promising though.

Strachan alluded to not taking much to do with transfer dealings either, in his auto-biography. It's probably a fairly common practice at clubs. Rodgers and his team will indicate players they'll be interested in and then the board will likely handle all the negotiations.

Yeah was aware of that at Liverpool with the Balotelli transfer etc.

Thought it would have been different here though. I thought Brendan would have came here and demanded full say on all transfer targets, especially after not having that at Liverpool.

Know what you are saying though but what’s the point in bringing in players you might not like or feel they aren’t any better to what you already have.

At the end of the day he is the manager and picks the team therefore it should be in his best interests to pick players that he wants not who others might want.

It was clear early on that Moussa and Eddie had a good partnership but we didn’t use it enough last year. It has looked great so far.

Last season wasn’t good enough in terms of goals but I think that was more due to the injuries we had at the time (Dembele,Griff, Roberts, Armstrong etc) and the lack of form from players such as Sinclair etc who had a big part in scoring as many goals as we did the year before. I think we were strong enough last year to score as many goals but we are needing new players now with Armstrong and Roberts leaving.

What everyone is forgetting is that Brendan Rodgers appointed Lee congerton as head of recruitment, so surely all is well and he allows him to do his job.

Folk reading far, far, too much into his comments.

It isn’t his job to identify signing targets, if it were he’d be our chief scout and not our manager. He has the final say, however, on all footballing decisions. Clearly.

He is meticulous, he is dominantly successful and he holds all the aces at Celtic. Desmond and the Board wouldn’t dream of placing draconian measures on his work at any level.

BR: It's going to be a difficult game. Over two-legs the job is always testing. We’ll be hoping to get a good result and come out the other end."

BR: “We had a really good experience last year. Rosenborg are a fantastic club with a great history over many years so this game 20 years ago would’ve been a group stage Champions League game. It shows the evolution of the #UCL that it’s a qualifying game."

BR: “We played really well here last year but it doesn’t count for anything. A very good pitch, a tough game but we come with an advantage and we feel we can come here and play well."

BR: “We always expect to perform well and even at this early stage of the season, we expect to come in and play well but we’ll always have respect for Rosenborg as they have very good players.

BR: “I enjoy the continuity of coaching and watching players improve. Of course, we want to strengthen the squad but at this point in the time, what’s most essential is building a mentality and quality to get through the qualification games.”

BR on Kristoffer Ajer: "I think he’ll go to the very highest level of the game. He’s a real leader for a young guy and he’s only going to get better and better. Joy to work with. Good guy, clever boy and his life’s devoted to football."

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers said the club were fully aware his focus lies with on-pitch matters as the Scottish champions look to add "quality" to their squad.

The Hoops take on Rosenborg on Wednesday evening as they look to hold on to their 3-1 advantage from the first leg of the Champions League second round qualifier.

A move for Australian playmaker Daniel Arzani was thought to be close to completion at the end of last week, while Celtic have had three bids rejected for Hibs midfielder John McGinn.

However, speaking ahead of the Trondheim fixture, Rodgers said he isn't aware of any imminent arrivals in Glasgow's east end.

Asked if any signings were close, Rodgers said: "Not that I'm aware, the club are fully aware that my focus has been very much with the squad of players because that is essentially what we have to work with.

"However, I believe the club are working very hard to try and get the right level of quality in, that's what we're after.

"It's not easy, we don't want to be stockpiling players at Celtic, we need to bring in players that are going to help the squad.

"They do need help but it has to be the right level of quality and there's a lot of work going on behind-the-scenes to bring that quality in."

The Northern Irishman insisted there has been no change to how the Hoops go about their business in the transfer market, adding that the coaching staff continue to hold responsibility over identifying targets.

"Nothing, no, it's exactly the same as when I walked in," said Rodgers.

"We'll identify firstly the players that fit the profile of the club, and how we play.

"Once we've found the player, it's over to the club to try and do a deal to bring the player in.

"It's a simple as that, there's no confusion or change."

Defender Dedryck Boyata and winger James Forrest are two of Celtic's key players entering the final twelve months of their current Parkhead deals.

Rodgers said talks are ongoing with Boyata over extended his stay, but that the ball was firmly in the Belgian's court.

He said: "I had a long chat with him yesterday, he's in a good place and we want to keep him for as long as we can, that's important

"Whether he decides he wants to move on after this year then that'll be up to him and his representatives.

"But my priority is getting him fit and back Into the team again because he's a top class player and for however long he's at Celtic we just want to keep him working and give him the best."

Rodgers praised Forrest's contribution since he took over at Parkhead and said the Scotland star still has his best years ahead of him.

On Forrest, he added: "In terms of James, he's clearly a player we'd love to keep. He's been outstanding in my time here, not just in games but in training too.

"You can see how much he wants to improve and I think his best years are still ahead of him so I'm sure the club will be working with James representatives to tie him down to a longer deal."

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers insists nothing has changed in the recruitment process at Parkhead.

Following last week’s 3-1 win over Rosenborg in the first leg of the second Champions League qualifier at Parkhead, the Northern Irishman was asked about the report claiming 19-year-old Australia playmaker Daniel Arzani was set to leave Melbourne City to join Manchester City with Celtic ready to take him on loan.

Eyebrows were raised when Rodgers said: “I can’t tell you anything about him or anyone else”, while confirming the Scottish champions had identified the youngster as a possible target.

At the media conference ahead of the return game in Trondheim, Rodgers said, with regards to recruitment: “It is exactly the same as when I walked in.

“We will look to find players that fit the profile of the club and very importantly, the profile of how we play and once we have found the player, it will be over to the club to try to do a deal to bring the player in.

“So it is as simple as that. There is no confusion, there is no change

And 99% of the time that's attacking teams unless we come up against a superpower.. so expect more attack minded player(s) to come in.

Even if we bring in a RB he will need to be able to attack like Tierney.
