How is Rodgers to account for Boyata not heading the ball clear, and Armstrong missing a sitter from a few yards out?

There has only been one game where we were below expectations - the BMG game.

And one game where we really exceeded expectations - 3-3 draw with City who had won about 10 games on the bounce in England.

Aye look to be fair I probably wrote that initial post in haste. I suppose I long for the MON days when teams were * scared of coming here. Was a good performance tonight and BR wasnt to blame as the tactics were spot on really. Will take the time to think my posts through from now on

So much better tonight. 10 out of 10 for selection and tactics. We were very unlucky and it so very easily could have been one of those memorable CL victories. A bit of work on the defence and we'll be ready to give this competition a real shot next season.

IT was with immense pride that Brendan Rodgers reflected on Celtic’s UEFA Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, with his team producing a performance full of courage, conviction and no shortage of skill.

The fact that his comments were also tinged with disappointment is a sign that Celtic deserved to get something from the game. That the German side took all three points with a narrow 2-1 victory doesn’t tell the whole story of a match where, for long periods, the Hoops dominated the action.

“The level of composure and quality we played with tonight, I was very proud of the team,” the Celtic manager said after the game.

“Overall we look like a proper team. We’re disappointed we lost but there are so many positives from the game and we caused them lots of problems. Individually they are world-class, although we’re disappointed with the goals.”

Celtic found themselves trailing to a first-half Kingsley Coman goal which followed a defensive mix-up, but Callum McGregor’s superb strike with 16 minutes remaining was just reward for the home side’s endeavours. However, just three minutes later, Javi Martinez headed home what proved to be the winner for the German side.

“As a team we showed a real high level of tactical idea and technique,” the manager said. “Callum’s a player that looks after the ball. He’s exceptional, and our goal was a wonderful demonstration of two Scottish players showing a great bit of skill. James Forrest’s pass was incredible. If that was a European player, everyone would have been raving about it.

“I was really pleased with the co-ordination in the team and how they worked the ball and played with composure at this level. It’s another step for us in terms of being a competitive side but also playing proper football.”

With two games remaining in Group B, Celtic remain in third place and in a strong position to secure European football after Christmas. The Hoops boss knows that both the away game against Paris Saint-Germain and then the home tie with Anderlecht will be difficult tests for his side, although his team’s performance against one of Europe’s top teams in Bayern Munich augurs well for the challenges ahead.

“It’s a huge step for their confidence,” he said. “Apart from the two goals we conceded, defensively we were very good. We kept our shape, pressed the game well at the right moments and when we had the ball we found the gaps.

“PSG will be a big test for us again. We want to achieve what we set out to achieve, which is European football after Christmas. If we do that, it’s a great marker and a great measure of how the players are progressing.

“First and foremost, we need to get there (to the Europa League),” the manager added. “We want to get there playing a level of game and football that can allow you to go as far as we possibly can. Tonight we showed we are improving our level at the very highest level.”

Any idiot (here’s looking at you Roy Keane) that thinks he isn’t clever enough to learn from his mistakes is exactly that. An idiot.

    We’re learning all the time.

Definite progress - tactics were right, personnel right.

So glad to see him adapt our approach, he knows it wasn't quite clicking in Europe and is trying to rectify it. Nothing worse than when a manager stubbornly refuses to adapt, and it's a sign of a good manager when he can adapt.

Horses for courses from now on, if that means dropping a Paddy Roberts for a hardworking Forrest, absolutely fine with that. Dropping Rogic for a more energetic McGregor, fine with that also.

Got it spot on last night, I’m slightly relieved as well as one of my only niggling criticisms of late with BR was not setting up a more solid side without so much focus on full on attack and taking the opponent you are facing into consideration.
