I'm not going to complain about the fixtures. Wednesday & Saturday's are fine with me.

The suggestion that a hun is in charge of them is quite frankly ridiculous.

    Very sad news.

I live about 20 miles from Liverpool, and Brendan's wife (then girlfriend) used to live a couple of miles from me.

There were stories in the local press when Brendan was managing Liverpool, involving a younger man harassing Brendan and his grilfriend. At the time, the younger man's identity was not in the public domain, but in hindsight, it was obviously this troubled soul.

Clearly he had issues, and it is tragic (for all parties) that it has ended this way.

BR on @SimunovicJozo injury: "He has come back into the team, having been injured and obviously performed exceptionally well."

BR: "Always want your top players available. He's had a slight reaction to the injury he had before and unfortunately unavailable."

BR on whether it will be long-term: "We don’t think so. We are waiting on the MRI results so we are hoping it’s not going to be."

BR on filling the void: "It’s something we have to be used to across our backline, especially centre-half."

BR: "Ideally, you want a settled partnership but sometimes we have had to rejig and it shape it in a different way.

BR: "But whoever I have put in there have always done their best and they know the strength is very much in the team

BR: "So whoever I put in there, I believe can do a good job as always.”

BR on having @ScottBrown8 & @StuArmstrong16 back in contention: “It’s a huge boost for us. Both players have different qualities."

BR: "Broony has those real leadership qualities. In my time here, in the big games, he has performed

BR: "He is a big game player & he will impose his way of playing and working and that is always a big inspiration for the team."

BR: "Stuart is a player who has grown at this level and he has real good mobility and a threat to score goals."

BR: "To have those players available is obviously very pleasing and it makes our squad that bit stronger.

BR on @FCBayern test: "One of the best teams in world football. Only need to look at their teamsheet & quality of their players.

BR: "For us, we understand and respect that, but our duty is to play how we play.

BR: "It’s not always easy when you play against these teams, but that’s how we work – we like to attack & defend with aggression

BR: "Another game for us in our development as a squad, & away from home we have shown that development.

BR: "It’s a big test for us but we look forward to it and relish it."

BRENDAN Rodgers believes having Scott Brown and Stuart Armstrong back in the squad is a huge boost for Celtic ahead of tomorrow night’s UEFA Champions League showdown against Bayern Munich.

The midfield duo have been sidelined for the Hoops since the 3-0 win over Anderlecht three weeks ago, with their injuries also forcing them to miss Scotland’s two crucial World Cup qualifiers.

And the manager was delighted to be able to call upon his captain’s leadership skills and Armstrong’s dynamism and goal-threat for the clash with the German giants in the Allianz Arena.

“It’s a huge boost for us,” he said, speaking to the media in Munich. “Both players have different qualities. Broony has those real leadership qualities. In my time here, in the big games, he has performed. He is a big game player so to come to this type of arena, he will impose his way of playing and working and that is always a big inspiration for the team. He has been brilliant in my time and, of course, we will look to him tomorrow to play as well as he always does.

“Stuart is a player who has grown at this level and he has real good mobility and a threat to score goals, so to have those players available is obviously very pleasing and it makes our squad that bit stronger.”

On the other hand, the Scottish treble-winners will have to do without the services of influential centre-half Jozo Simunovic, who has experienced a setback during his recovery from hamstring injury.

“He has come back into the team, having been injured and obviously he has performed exceptionally well and you always want your top players available,” said the Irishman. “He has had a slight reaction to the injury he had before and unfortunately he is unavailable.

“We are waiting on the MRI results so we are hoping it’s not going to be (long term). He just felt in training the other day. We just need to wait and see.”

The Hoops boss, however, is confident he has the personnel at his disposal to fill the void of the big defender.

“It’s something we have to be used to across our backline, especially centre-half,” he said. “Unfortunately a lot of the players haven’t been available all the time. Ideally, you want a settled partnership that plays at centre-half but we have had to rejig and shape it in a different way sometimes.

“But whoever I have put in there have always done their best and given their all and they know the strength is very much in the team, so whoever I put in there, I believe can do a good job as always.”

Celtic will go into the game on the back of a wonderful 3-0 win away to Anderlecht, which saw them draw level on points with Bayern in Group B.

And while Brendan Rodgers knows his team are going up against one of the most talented sides on the continent, he feels his team are ready for the challenge.

“It’s one of the best teams in world football,” he said. “You only need to look at their teamsheet and the quality of their players. We understand and respect that, but our duty is to play how we play.

“It’s not always easy when you play against these teams, but that’s how we work – we like to attack and defend with aggression. I respect it will be a tough game for us but it’s another game in our development as a squad, and away from home we have shown that development over the course of the last season. It’s a big test for us but we look forward to it and relish it.”

Has just admitted there in his post match PC that he'd rather play the way he wants and get beat than park the bus and get beat anyway. I see his point, but I think he's missing the fact that we defo need to become more difficult to break down. Yes, Bayern and PSG are world class, but at times we made it far too easy for them.
We need to frustrate, stifle and annoy the opposition such as Bayern etc Its unrealistic to expect us to have the lions share of the ball at this level to play the way we want to, therefore, we must change our game plan to suit the opponent.
WGS side played over 180 minutes against Milan and did not concede a goal. A side that included Kaka, seedorf, inzaghi and maldini. Ok it wasn't pretty on the eye and we didn't have much goin forward but at least we were not rolled over. We still played with one striker. Griff done as much tonight as Vof H or miller would have done over those two legs, so it's not working BR.

Sinclair and Roberts don't offer near enough protection. We don't necessarily have to park the bus, just getting more work out of the wide players would be a start.

BR: "Coming to play this team in this stadium, in particular the 2nd half, the play was very good when we attacked and got forward."

BR: “I was disappointed with the nature of the goals we conceded. They were poor goals from our perspective

BR: "But there were still a lot for us in the game, in particular the second half, in how we built the game from behind.

BR: "We were playing against a top-class side & felt we could be better with the goals we conceded & with some of our build-up play.

BR on whether he should have been more pragmatic in his approach: "“We decide how we play."

BR: "Nothing about being pragmatic about the goals we conceded. We didn’t defend our box well enough when the crosses come in."

BR: "I would rather lose a game in how we want to play & work as opposed to sitting in & defending for 90 minutes and still losing."

BR: "There were lots of positives in the game and something to look forward to for the game at Celtic Park.”

BR: "Listen, you need to be a realist as well and respect who we are playing against."

BR: "Of course, we want to be competitive at this level but you also have to measure the level & the quality we're playing against."

BR: "My players gave absolutely everything tonight. This is a really honest group of men."

BR: "Domestically they have been absolutely amazing to qualify for this competition and it’s a huge ask."

BR: "Progress for us is to be in Europe after Christmas & still our aim & focus but in every game we play we want to give our best.

BR: "There were lots of things tonight I was pleased with but the nature of the goals we conceded, we can be much better with.”
