“For both sets of supporters it’s everything. It really means everything. There is such a historical context to the game so, yes, these games are for the supporters. That’s who you are playing for.”

Wish people within the club would stop coming out with * like this as it makes them think they're still relevant to us.

BRENDAN RODGERS doesn’t care if there’s apathy down south about what he’s doing at Celtic.

That’s because the Hoops boss insists he’s driven purely by a desire to make the club look dazzling — not his CV.

And the Invincibles manager isn’t planning on leaving any time soon.

Ex-Celtic star Craig Bellamy reckons the former Liverpool boss will struggle to get another top post in England because ‘no one cares’ about what he’s doing here.

Bellamy rates Rodgers as one of the best coaches around — but is not convinced enough folk in the English Premiership rate Scottish football enough.

The irony, though, is that the Celts boss is just as unconcerned about them.

Rodgers — keyed up for Rangers at Ibrox on Saturday — said: “To be honest, I am not here to win titles for my own CV and to get a job in England. I am here to do a job at Celtic.

“I love life in Scotland, first and foremost. I love the city.

“It has been great for me for the last 15 months or so. Of course the football has gone well and that is why we are here. I love that aspect of it and that is my only concern.

“I am not here to boost a CV. I am here because of Celtic.

“It is a club I love. I have really loved the life here, I love the challenge of trying to develop the football club to a standard or a level that hopefully we can sustain and dedicate that excellence to.

“I have enough challenges and worries here to look forward to that are really exciting. Whether that initiates a job elsewhere I am not even worried about that.

“I am not in a rush any more.

“This is my fifth job and I started my career in management in my mid-30s. Now I am 44.

“So in less than ten years in management I have had five jobs.

“I was in a rush probably the first few years, trying to get to the top, trying to get to Liverpool and blah blah blah. But I don’t really sense that anymore.

“My life has always been about developing players — if we can win trophies along the way then great.

“I respect Craig, he is very passionate about his life, very passionate about his football.

“Seeing some of the comments I am not sure it is meant in that way. But if it is, then OK.

“I am not here to worry about my next job — my only worry is Celtic and that is what I am paid to do.

“I think there always will be interest in Celtic. You can’t say there isn’t. I have been all over the world and, whatever players I have worked with in the Premier League, when there is a Rangers-Celtic or Celtic-Rangers game on, the boys are glued to it.

“I have been at Chelsea, Swansea, Liverpool. I have been in enough canteens — where if the game is on they are watching it.

“Where they know the intensity and they think ‘* *’ what type of game it must be to play in?

“What the wider perception of it is, I am not sure.

“The bigger leagues will always get the focus. I think we all know that. But there are also some great clubs, huge clubs outside of that who might not have the financial clout of some of these teams.

“Certainly, though, in terms of history and prestige there are not too many bigger and better than here.”

By tomorrow it will be 500 days since Celtic’s stunning unbeaten run started. Lisbon Lion and club kitman John Clark handed Rodgers a bottle of champers to mark last season’s 27 straight victories — beating a record set by Jock Stein’s fabled team.

On the record of results, Rodgers said: “It is funny, I see the achievement every day when I walk into the office.

“At the time where we beat the 26, the bottle said 27 on it.

“Now I look at it and think ‘we are up to 56, so we have more than doubled that’. The bottle’s only there as a memento. It’ll just go away into the cupboard. Hopefully we’ll not open it for a while yet.

“We just keep going. There’s work to do. We just focus on the next game and never get too caught up or worried about what people are saying.

“That’s key to the team’s success. We know the challenges for this season and one of the pitfalls of success is that people want you disconnected.

“You become a bigger target for teams and people start to talk about your players. But these are all things we anticipated during the summer.

“So the key for us is to focus on ourselves, focus on our own game and then let our football do the talking.

“But it is an incredible feat by the players and great testament to their focus, concentration and professionalism at their work.

“We keep pushing forwards but don’t get carried away.

“Listen, that humility around the building from people like John is always good. When there are boys like him and Danny McGrain, they will sort them out!”

BRENDAN Rodgers revealed he is loving life in Glasgow and spoke openly about how much managing Celtic meant to him as he reflected on his time with the club since arriving 15 months ago.

Speaking to the media at Lennoxtown ahead of tomorrow’s (Saturday's) Premiership game against Rangers, the manager insisted he was not thinking about how the success he has achieved at Celtic reflects on himself.

“I’m not up here to work on my next move from Celtic,” he said. “I’m here because of Celtic. I’m not sure where it will take me from here, but what registers for me is making the supporters here really proud and happy to watch their team.

“I love my life here in Glasgow, I really enjoy it. I enjoy working for this club. I enjoy preparing the team and my staff for us to win and win well. I’m not overly bothered what it does for my CV.

“My only worry is for Celtic and to do the best job I possibly can here for the length of time I’m here and then we’ll see what happens after that. I’m now in my fifth job as a manager so I’m not in a rush anymore. I was at great clubs before this year. I’m now at a club I love being at so I’m not necessarily worrying or thinking about my next move."

He added: “My only concern is doing the very best for Celtic, the supporters and giving all I have to the players.”

Guys a diamond. Wouldn't want anybody else as manager at Celtic right now, he gets it, he gets us, and most importantly he gets the players performing to their very best.

    He's THE MAN!

I know he's a Celtic man and all, but just how we managed to get him to come here is astonishing.

Biggest sign of intent on where club wants to go since MON.

Off topic but when day comes he seeks pastures new after wining 10iar, I think he'd make title contenders out of Arsenal.

Remember when he slipped and Chelsea? scored - meaning that Liverpool didn't win the league that year. If BR had led them to a league title for the first time in 20 odd years, I doubt very much that things would have turned out as they did.
