The manager started the press conference by saying it was a job very well done today against Dundee.

BR: "After the Inverness game, the aspect we wanted to work on was, if we are in that moment again, can we win 1-0?""

BR: "This week, we've shown all the attributes that this team has - attacking intent & importantly, the aggression in our defending.

BR: "Even after all the exertions of midweek, they pressed the game.

BR: "Dundee are a nice little side. They can open teams up but we never let them have any sort of rhythm.

BR: "The only thing missing from our game today was that little bit of sharpness in the final third.

BR: "I thought we controlled the game very well, had good positioning no the pitch and we only needed the one goal."

BR: "The players are very tired. We have a super level of fitness and if we didn't have that,we couldn't have come through today.

BR on Scott Brown: "With his performance levels & energy in every training day & game, he's very inspiring for his team-mates.

BR: "He started the move and he arrives in the box with a great finish. He has shown in the last week what a top player he is.

BR: "I looked at him on Wed. night against some of the top midfield players in the world, and he dominated the midfield."

BRENDAN Rodgers believes Scott Brown is an inspiration to his team-mates after the captain capped off an impressive performance with the winning goal today away to Dundee.

The skipper found the net early in the second half with an accurate finish after Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair had been denied in the box, having initiated the opportunity himself when he picked Dembele in the box.

That proved the only goal of the game, despite a dominant display from the Hoops on the back of their gruelling efforts in Wednesday night’s 3-3 draw with Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League.

And after the match, the manager hailed the 31-year-old after the match for his performance, not just at Dens Park but against the big-spending English Premier League side less than three days earlier.

He said: “If you look at Scotty’s performance level and his energy that he puts into every single training day and game, he’s very inspiring for his team-mates.

“He started the move. We built the game, we had good positions. He got on the ball, we worked it and he arrived into the box with a great finish. In the last week, he has shown what a top player he really is.

“I looked at him on Wednesday night. This is a guy playing against some of the top midfield players in the world and one of the top teams in Europe, and he dominated the midfield.

“Not only that, against a team that really press the game well, his ability to pass the ball – this is the one of the things we have been talking to him about – looking after the ball. Whether it’s British or Scottish players, you can play football. You aren’t just runners and just chasing it – you can do that - but you can play. Scott is a wonderful demonstration of that.

“He’s highly gifted technically and tactically he’s really impressed me, and physically you saw him today and you have seen him in other games that he’s super strong and super fit. He's also a tough guy mentally. He deserves all the credit he gets. He’s a wonderful captain for me and I still think he can improve.”

The result moved the Hoops five points clear at the top of the table going into the latest international break, with a game still in hand over their rivals.

It also means the champions remain unbeaten in the league so far this season, winning six out of their seven games.

The only draw in that run came last month against Inverness Caley Thistle when the Hoops were left to rue a number of missed opportunities as the Highlanders grabbed a late equaliser.

And the Hoops boss was delighted to see his team prove they could churn out a 1-0 victory in such a controlled manner.

He said: “It was a job very well done. After the Inverness game, I said to the players that I can understand drawing a game you should win but the aspect we wanted to work on after that was when we are in that moment again, could we win a game 1-0?

“This week we have shown all the attributes this team have – the attacking intent and, very importantly, the aggression in the defending. Today, again, after all the exertion of midweek, the players pressed the game.

“Dundee are a nice little side. I have watched them in games where they play and they can open teams up, and they have good positioning to keep the ball but today we didn’t really let have any sort of rhythm and forced them back.

“The only thing missing in our game today was probably that little bit of sharpness in the final third. We can normally break lines and be fast and dynamic but I felt we controlled the game very well and had good positioning on the pitch and the one goal was enough.”

Erik Skiavenko? Is that actually the correct pronunciation and I'm being ignorant or is she just a typical Scottish journalist?

A year on from his sacking by Liverpool nobody could have dreamed 12 months later he'd be in our dugout as the manager of Celtic

What would he have to do to achieve that though? Consecutive trebles? 10 in a row?

Martin O'Neill got us to a European final, do you believe Brendan can achieve that for us?

Only time will tell Wanyama1967 but in my view if he got us to the Quarters in the CL that equals reaching the brilliant 2003 UEFA Cup final.Reaching the last 4 would top it!
But its a big ask,and of course throw in 10 in a row,why indeed not!

Nothing tops a European Final in my opinion, we could be winning 90 leagues in a row nothing will even equate to lifting or getting to a European Final.

We should be emulating that level of achievement.
