I will hold my hands up and say I wasn't really that confident of him being able to do this first time around.

Brilliant manager and all but he came here and had to work with a good bit of *. First season is always difficult.

When you factor everything in it is a good achievement. Two nightmarish ties in Astana and Be'er Sheva having to travel thousands of miles, flung right in at the deep end as well with little time to prepare.

Don't know why, but there's something I don't like about his post match comments there.

    This bit.

“But this was different. There was so much riding on this qualification and it would be typical Celtic, from watching them over many years, that there would be be a 92nd goal and everyone is on their knees."

And where he says it's where Celtic belongs, I feel he should be saying 'where we belong'. Also, all this chat of being so happy for the board and the fans and the players, it just sounds a bit detached to me. Then again, it's probably nothing as I've loved his public speaking before this.

    His Decisions today ...........

    The starting line-up:

I thought Lustig did well at CH today and probably a good choice given that Erik was clearly not fit enough to start (or SURELY would have been on much earlier in place of Janko!) The problem was then not having a good enough option at RB.
So he was faced with the choice of O'Connell at CH with Lustig at RB, or the choice he made. That looks easy in hindsight given the absolute stinker Janko had - but O'Connell had few 'moments' at home last week and given this was a pressure situation in away leg, 'on paper' Janko at RB looked to be less of a risk. If Erik or Jozo is fit, that choice simply does not have to be made.

McGregor gets the nod as more of a true midfield player than Rogic, so would have made same selection with what was available - he had a poor game, but I think the starting choice was probably correct

The rest of the team pretty much picked itself

    The subsitutions

Rogic for Forrest - that one probably also looked good on paper - Forrest had done nothing to speak of and Tom's physical presence you would have expected to be a help in both holding up the ball and in defensive set piece situations; he just never got going though and fare to say he didn't really make much of a positive contribution.

Dembele for Griff - I can understand that one - Griff had been running hard and fresh legs up front was still a good tactic. Paddy might have been the alternative but probably reluctant to throw him on with no minutes after injury.

Erik for McGregor - well the only question mark was who he would replace - Janko was rank rotten, but replacing him would not have allowed the 5 at the back (unless Brown possibly might have gone to RWB) - but it was a toss-up at that point, although Janko was even more inept and definitely a liability in terms of second yellow or conceding another penalty. But with three in the middle, that liability risk was lowered.

So as much as I think Janko was our poorest performer, given the options and tactics required, BR made the right decision with the options he had available to him.

So what do you believe he needs now?
I think a commanding midfielder is surely top priority and a back-up/competing right back is also essential. He must also be wishing he had a few more weeks to be able to see how Erik & Jozo can do but might just hold off on getting another CH in.

I think BR did really well today with his choices all round - even though some of the selections did not really perform, I believe the decisions were correct.

Problem is with headers and flick ons no matter who it is dembele or griff there is in these types of games....* all support and no one to pick up the headers and flicks.

Champions league in first season. Good enough for me I hope he makes some more useful signings.

Hard decision for the gaffer to make was at half time sub janko or Forrest as both were * poor. Obviously be picked the later.
Maybe schiatchenko wasn't fit enough to play 45mins.and the gaffer had his hands tied, with choices in that aspect.
Cause when he came on we were solid enough at the back.
    * knows, maybe I'm speaking rubbish. End of the day we are in the champions league again!! Woooo!

I'm pretty sure most of us would have given him some forgiveness if he hadn't made the CL this season while he gets his team formed. This is great that he'* the ground running

He was right about heroic failure though. How many time's has that been us to a tee in Europe?

I get what you mean about how he's addressing us but for me, I don't want to keep hearing him say I've been a Celtic supporter my whole life, or this worldwide support. It loses it's feel when he keeps banging on about it. We know he's a Tim, a few choice word's won't change that, so I'm no fussed......also, it's no biggin himself up and getting cocky by saying we (he) belongs in the Champion's League..

Don't forget he's been viewing us as a fan himself for years and is most likely still got an element of fan thoughts/thinking. We were all thinking that disaster could befall us in the final minutes, as it's done many times before, so I don't blame him for that. Also he said at one point himself that it's still sinking in that he's manager of the club he's supported from boyhood. It's like he's found himself living the dream and hasn't quite figured out how to express himself yet.

    Aye ok, Sir Alex.

Naw, let's look at it another way.

Janko and McGregor were fkn abysmal choices and should never have started.

Janko cannae defend to save himself.

McGregor, fk knows what he offers, let's all forget the few goals at the start of last season, he's never in a million years a DM, and he offers nowt compared to Rogic, what exactly does he contribute more than Rogic? Yes, Rogic might run out of juice and could possibly go missing for 20-30 minutes possibly, especially in such a game, can he do it like McGregor for 90 minutes? Not on your nelly. Sorry, McGregor is probably the most talked about player I've ever heard within Celtic talk that come up with "Is McGregor actually on the field", never have I heard this of any other player in recent times, than this guy. Offers bo-diddly squat.

He saved it by bringing on Erik, that was the main thing.

I didn't believe he would get us into the CL at first go, and he's done well with the limited purchases.

I like the look of them team, with the exception of a few players around the squad I don't believe should be there.
