A day? I swear he'd name his team at least a week before. :smiley-laughing002:

Not that it varied much from the usual 4-4-2 with Keane/Doyle up front and Whelan/Andrews in midfield at all times.

I reckon when we have a fully fit squad, a fair few who wont make it out the door with a 2,3 more in the door adding that bit of quality Brendan will do really good things here I'm looking forward to it.

I agree we need to add a few quality players to enhance the squad. Armstrong still has a lot to learn but I still think he can improve and become a solid player for us.

Refreshing to see a manager constantly on the touchline, taking notes, shouting players over to give instructions, making subs when needed instead of waiting till the last ten minutes etc after the last few seasons.

He'd have to sit on the bench as he's untested at SPL level.

We certainly look sharper and better organised under Rodgers. Board have to give him the backing he deserves.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers speaking after today's game v @FCBarcelona : "Great education playing Barca.

BR on if today was a good exercise:“It was excellent, always a great education when you play against Barcelona.

BR: "Really proud of the players, coming off a long trip in the week and playing against a team who really test you.

BR: "A lot of good moments in the game. We had some really good passages of play. The only negative is the injury to Bitton.

BR on Nir Bitton's injury: "It looks a nasty one, will assess over next 24 hours.

BR on @Leighgriff09 :“Pre-season games have been tough & he's getting fitter and stronger and he got his rewards for pressing.

BR: "He’s a terrific striker, no doubt about that. A real natural instinct and whatever level he plays he will score.

BR on importance of fans next week in #UCL: "The supporters will be critical for us. Great support in last game, will need them again.

BR: "The condition of the tie is in good shape for us but we still have to do the job and put a performance in.

BR: "We know Astana are good on the counter attack, fast players, direct, so moments in the game we will have to cope with.

BR: "A lot of work to do yet but players are pushing, pressing and working.

BR: "And if they can find those moments of quality it will be enough to take us through.

BR on Eoghan O'Connell: "I thought he was excellent.

BR: "He came in against Leicester and did very well. Played in the game under big pressure and came through it very well.

BRENDAN Rodgers was proud of his players after they produced an impressive performance against Spanish champions Barcelona just three days after a testing UEFA Champions League qualifier in Kazakhstan.
The Hoops may have lost to the Catalan giants 3-1 in the International Champions Cup, but they matched their illustrious opponents for long spells and created a number of good openings at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium.
A first-half injury to Nir Bitton was the only blot on the copybook for Brendan Rodgers’ side as they gear up for the return match with FC Astana in four days time.
Speaking after the match, the manager said: “It was excellent. It’s always a great education when you play against Barcelona in terms of how they play and work.
“I was really proud of the players, coming off the back of a long trip in the week and only having one day to recover, then coming back out here to play against a team who really test you in your organisation.
“I thought there were lot of really good moments in the game for us in what we are trying to do, in terms of our pressing in the game – our goal came from that ability to press up the field.
“The only negative was the injury to Bitton. It looks a nasty one but we will assess that over the next 24 hours, when we will see how serious it is.”
Leigh Griffiths, who scored Celtic’s equaliser against Astana earlier in the week, repeated the feat against Barcelona, capitalising on an errant pass to lash home and cancel out Arda Turan’s opener.
“He has got good rhythm now,” said the Hoops boss. “This is our 10th game since pre-season and they have all been tough games.
“He is really getting fitter and stronger now and we were saying to him to press goalkeepers; that he would get four or five goals a season through that pressure and pressing and he got his rewards for that today.
“He was good on the first press and the ball comes across and he was there to finish. He’s a terrific striker, there is no doubt about that. From the short time I’ve worked with him, you can see he has a real natural instinct.
“Whatever level he plays at, he will get goals. It was nice for him to get them in the qualifiers. He’s starting to find his feet and it was a good instinctive finish today.”
And Brendan Rodgers know that Griffiths, the rest of the Celtic squad and the Hoops faithful will need to be in top form to complete the job against Astana in Paradise in three days time.
“All the players will be and the supporters will be critical for us as well,” he said. “We had great support in the last home game in the competition and we will need them again in the next game to get us over the line.”

Brendan Rodgers believes he needs four new players before the closure of the transfer window – with 21-year-old Manchester United defender Paddy McNair high on the wanted list of the Celtic manager.

However, while Rodgers will look to bolster his squad he could also be another body down after Nir Bitton limped out of the Aviva Stadium in Dublin last night with what appears to be a medial ligament injury. The midfielder is a considerable doubt ahead of Wednesday night’s second leg UEFA Champions League qualifier against FC Astana.

“Our only negative was the injury to Nir Bitton which looks a nasty one,” said Rodgers. “We’ll assess it in the next 24 hours. There is a concern but we will see how serious it is.”

Meanwhile, having had an opportunity to assess the Celtic squad over the last six weeks, Rodgers will look to kick on with signings before the closure of the transfer window next month.

“Probably ideally I would like another four,” said the Parkhead manager. “We shall see. It just takes time. I respect that and understand that but in terms of assessing the squad before I came in and likewise having been in now for six weeks or so that is what I would say we would be at.”

Celtic have been frustrated in their attempts to bring in Scott Sinclair, with four bids knocked back by Aston Villa for the player. McNair could be next in line with Rodgers looking to progress in Europe with a more balanced squad.

“Scotty is a young talented lad that I know really well but he is still an Aston Villa player. Until anything done there is nothing to say,” said Rodgers. He was similarly coy on the interest in McNair, with his club manager Jose Mourinho believing that he would benefit from a loan deal. “I can’t deny or say yes or no that because there have been so many players who have been thrown our way or linked with Celtic so I can’t comment on everyone.”

Posted the same in the Mcnair transfer rumour thread. HH

If he wants four new players and likes small squads we will see a flurry of exits . I can see 4 or 5 going away on loan deadline day and 3 or 4 being sold before then .

Brendan interview there he said the fans were great but we need to be more patient when the ball goes back the way. He knows what we want but we need to be calm cause it affects the players.

He's right. The groaning when somebody * up or when we pass the ball back is counter productive.
