Personally I would prefer that no animal be harmed, I am a veggie and always have been. However even I can see the difference between killing an animal in a regulated slaughterhouse ( where hopefully welfare conditions are met) and microwaving a creature for fun.

I would rather people did not go hunting, but if you did it for meat, and made sure it was a clean kill then that is surely better than killing it for kicks?

Who is to say that killing for meat is any better than killing because you enjoy taking an animal's life?

My point being, that to differentiate between killing an animal for meat and killing for enjoyment implies that the former is not equally as selfish. The reason people kill animals for meat is because they ENJOY eating meat, not because they have to.

That is very true, and as a veggie I would rather that no living creature was harmed by a human no matter what the reason. However I doubt that would ever be the case, what it comes down to is a matter of what society judges to be cruel and unnecessary treatment.

I dont think anyone can justify microwaving a hamster, and i think, or at least hope, that everyone would find it distasteful.

I was always raised to believe that it is wrong to harm another living creature, whether that be a spider (which I hate but still dont kill), hamster, cow, or human.

I'm vegetarian too, and also choose not to kill any living creature (which, like you, includes spiders which terrify me).

Just for the record, like, in case you pictured me microwaving animals and justifying it by comparing it to eating burgers. :icon_mrgreen:

Also, I just realised (thanks to a post in this thread) that I come from the same town as him. Weird to think that I may know that person.

personally i don't know how you can go without eating meat.been having a lot of salad lately but been getting drenched with cesar sauce.it's only natural to eat meat, but a person throwing a hamster in a microwave is not killing to eat...it is torture

    * well you may have the RSPCA turning up at your door in about 5 mins sorry about that, thought you were some sort of psycho gerbil killer :50:

I know what your point was though, I guess its just that we are numb, or in some cases blind, to the suffering of farm animals, but cases like this do make me sick.

I have never eaten meat, so I guess it is a lot easier for me in that sense. I certainly would never preach to anyone to not eat meat, much as I wish folk wouldnt, but you would be shocked at people's reaction when you say you are veggie. People get fairly aggressive with the whole getting me to try a burger thing, its mad.

In terms of it being natural that is up for debate to be honest. We have canine teeth, but also molars and our jaw moves both up and down as well as side to side ( as carnivores and herbivores do only one of each).

In addition our intestinal tract is more akin to that of a herbivore as it is so long. If its not natural it is at least the norm, but no matter what Microwaving a live creature is not I think we are agreed on that.

i find it worrying that he hasnt given a thought about the pain or the fact it has a right to live.im of the mind if you can kill an animal so easily you could do it to a person.very disturbing behaviour.
